Sisters of St. Joseph Concert Band
To Appear at Huron Cancer Rally
To mark the centenbial year of
their coming to London Diocese,
the Sisters of St. Joseph have de-
cided to let their Concert Band
"take to the road." The Band
made its debut at the Waterloo
Instrumental Clinic at the Uni-
versity of Waterloo last Spring
and was accorded a standing
ovation by an audience of band-
masters, music supervisors and
musicians who heard them.
The Concert at C.F.B, Clinton
Recreation Centre, on October
28, at 8 p.m., is one of a
series of performances in south-
ern Ontario, to be followed later
by concerts in Winnipeg and
Edmonton. Long range plans call
for a European tour as well.
The Band is made up entirely
of Sisters of St. Joseph and is
believed to be the first band
ever organized within a Canad-
ian religious order. It numbers
fifty members and includes a
wide range of instruments.
Mr. Martin Boundy, on of
Canada's leading musicians, is
the director of the Mount St.
Joseph Band. In its brief history
musical critics have declared
that the Band has )Wade "fabulous
progress." Besides a varied and
attractive repertoire of instru-
mental compositions it also
features a number of delightful
vocal selections sung by mem-
bers of the band. By laying aside
flutes, clarinets, trumpets, Fren-
ch horns and trombones the fifty -
member band can be converted
in an instant into a fifty -voice
choir to add delightful variety
to the program.
