Shown presenting the $200 to Mr. Thiel is Ken Chantler, salesman for the tire company. The contest ran throughout the month of June. Huron Board Annouce Almost 13,500 Students Enrolled For School Term (by Richmond Atkey) The thirty-nine schools under the jurisdiction of Huron County Board of Education showed a slight increase of 3.3 per cent over last year in enrolment on opening day Tuesday. J. W . Coulter, superintendent of schools, reported to the Board at its first fall meeting in the Board Room of Central Huron Secondary School, Clinton, the same eyeing, that 13, 468 pupils were enrolled by noon as against 13, 069 on September 30, 1968. Elementary schools were up 212 retarded schools 13, and second- ary schools 174. Commenting on his report, Mr. Coulter said that, generally, there was an increase in the secondary schools, with the elementary schools not keeping pace. This situation had been anticipated. Establishment of kindergarten classes in Brookside (northwest), Colborne Central, Grey Central, Holmesville and North Ashfield elementary schools boosted the opening -day totals, he stated. A new school had been added; Huron Hope School at Huron Park, Centralia, with eleven pupils on opening day. He said there was too much work for one teacher, and a motion was pass- ed to give the superintendent permission to hire extra help.
