Report Expected Shortly on Teacher's
Salaries by Huron School Board
(By Richmond Atkey)
Huron County Board of Ed-
ucation is likely to receive a
report at next week's meeting,
September 15, on salaryneg-
otiations with the boards 341
elementary teachers. Robert
M. Elliott, R. R, 3 Clinton,
chairman of the Elementary
School Teachers' Negotiating
Committee, informed the press
following last weeks board meet-
ing in Central Huron Secondary
School, Clinton.
September 9, at 2, 30 p.m.
conducted by Rev. J. Huether
and Rev. E. Gingerich. Inter-
ment was in the Zurich Men-
nonite Cemetery, on the Goshen
line.
Pall bearers elrere Carl Oesch,
Elgin Kipfer, Lee Kipfer, Orland
Schwartzentruber, Roy Gingerich
and Ken Gascho.
"It would be out of order to
make a statement unless 48
hours' notice had been given the
teachers, " he said. The Com.
mittee had the teachers' com-
mittee only the night before.
However, he anticipated an
early report.
The same attitude and the
same result were not forth -
corning from ID, J. Murphy,
Goderich, chairman of the
Board's committee negotiating
with the 264 secondary schoo
teachers.
"We are not in a position to
make a statement tonight, " he
stated bluntly, gibing no in-
dication when the committee
would be in a position to report
to the board.
Apparently, negotiations are
still proceeding with the sec-
ondary teachers.
John B. Lavis, Clinton, chair-
man of the board, told the press
THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 11, 1%9
that many county boards of
Education in Ontario have not
yet reached salary agreements,
and that such a situation had
not been unusual prior to the
inauguration of county school
boards. Agreements often had
been arrived at after the opening
of school, he pointed out.
The matter of negotiations with
the two teachers' committees
came up when the board was
considering a report of the
salary committee for non -teach-
ing employees of the board, and
the press requested an explana-
tion for the apparent delay.
The board, at last week's
meeting, confirmed items pass-
ed in a previous committee of
the whole;
(1) That Mrs. Edna Bell of
Seaforth Public School, be paid
in category 5 of the proposed
salary schedule; (2) That res-
ignations of Miss Joan Armitage
from staff of Wingham Public
School, be accepted; (3) That
Miss Jo -Ann Aldwinkle, Harry
Brooksand, Mrs. Eleanor Scott,
