HomeMy WebLinkAboutZurich Citizens News, 1969-09-04, Page 9THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 4, 1969 ZURICH CITIZENS NEWS Couple Celebrate 60th Anniversary A highly respected and well - like Grand Bend couple for the past 33 years, Mr. and Mrs, Norman Turnbull were honoured on Monday at the home of their son and daughter-in-law Mr. and Mrs. Rufus Turnbull, on the occasion of the 60th wedding anniversary. Friends and relative visited the couple in the after- noon and evening, and they were the recipients of many lovely gifts. Mr. Turnbull was born in Hay Township on December 23, 1888, a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Turnbull. Mrs, Turn- bull, the former Adeline Sharrow. was born in Grand Bend, a daugh- ter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Sharrow. They were married on September 1, 1909, at the home of the bride's par- ents in Grand Bend, by Rev. S. H. Carrier. Following their marriage the couple lived on the Bluewater Highway in Hay Township, on the farm now owned by their son, Rufus, until they moved to Grand Bend in 1936. Until his retire- ment some years ago, Mr. Turn- bull worked at the carpenter trade. Both Mr, and Mrs. Turn- bull are enjoying fine health, and every winter they travel to Florida to spent the cold season in the sunny south. Along with his son, Mr. Turn- bull has one sister still living. She is Mrs. Jean Allen, of Park- hill. Mrs. Turnbull has one brother, Aquius Sharrow, still About People Mr. and Mrs. Wes Hugill and Beth and Gary spent the holiday weekend travelling through Northern Ontario and Michigan. Milne O'Brien, son of Mr. and Mrs. Jack O'Brien, Nova Scotia, is holidaying at the home of his grandmother, Mrs. Hans., Clauius. He hitch hiked the entire distance from Halifax to Zurich. Mr. and Mrs. Hubert Schilbe and family attended the Schilbe- Papp wedding in London, Friday evening. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ray Schrlbe, London. Mr. and Mrs. Reg Black, Laurie Kim and Jamie were holiday weekend visitors at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Herb Mousseau. They made the trip from Buck- ingham, Quebec, in Mr. Black's plane. Mr. and Mrs. Gary Rogers and Mark are spending this week with Mr. and Mrs. Ed Gascho and Mr. and Mrs. Doug O'Brien. Mrs. Gascho returned home with them after spending a fe days in Windsor. living, and the couple have one grandchild, Mrs. Glenn Thiel, R. R. 2, Zurich. While living in Hay Township, Mr. Turnbull was a school trustee at SS11, for 15 years. He has served on the cemetery board in Grand Bend for the past 20 years, and also served two years on the village council in Grand Bend. They are devoted members of the Church of God in Grand Bend. While Open House was held on Monday, the couple were treated to a dinner at the Dominion Hotel, Zurich, on Saturday night, by members of their family. Along with the many good wishes received by the couple were messages of con- gratulations from Prime Minister P. E. Trudeau; Leader of the Opposition, Hon. Robert Stan- field and Robert E. McKinley, Huron MP. A personal visit from the Hon. C. S. MacNaugh- ton, Huron MPP and Treasurer of Ontario, climaxed a perfect day for the happy couple. Amongthe many gifts they received were a pair of beautiful table lamps, presented them by their former neighbours on the Blue Water highway. 0 Dozen Seats Left For September 30 Trip to Switzerland The time is getting closer for the charter trip to Zurich, Switzerland, which is scheduled to leave Malton Airport at nine o'clock in the evening, on September 30. Arrival time in Switzerland is ten thirty in the morning on October 1, by Swiss time. Final meeting for those taking part in the trip is scheduled to be held in Zurich, at the Community Centre, on Thursday nignt, september 11. At this time airline representatives will be present to distribute return - flight tickets, and also to pass out free flight bags to every passenger. There is still room for about a dozen passengers on the trip, and if anyone is interested they should contact either Gerald Gingerich or Herb Turkheim, immediately. Passports can still be obtained in plenty of time for anyone wishing to go along. A civic reception is being planned for the entire group on the first evening, by the city of Zurich, who will be hosts at their City Hall.
