Zurich Bean Queen, Donna Schilbe,
Captures Miss Rodeo Title at Exeter
A highlight of the Exeter Rodeo
this past weekend, as far as
local people were concerned, wa
the winning of the title, Miss
Rodeo Queen, by a Zurich girl,
Donna Schilbe. Last weekend,
Donna won the title, Bean Queen
at the Zurich Bean Festival, and
along with this went the privilege
of representing the Bean Festival
at the Exeter Rodeo contest. She
competed with five other girls
in the contest, from St. Marys,
Seaforth, Hensall, Exeter and
Centralia.
A couple of Zurich boys, Brad
and Wayne Oke, also competed
in the Little Britches contest, in
which they try riding a calf
bare back. 'Fwo Ilensall youths,
Barry and Brad Mousseau, also
competed in numerous classes
at the Rodeo.
Larry Merner, R. R. 3, Zurich,
drove a team of ponies in the
chariot races which were held on
both the Saturday and Sunday
•
events.
The rodeo, which attracted wel
over 10, 000 people to the two
day event, got under way on
Saturday morning with a cowpoke
breakfast at rhe rodeo grounds.
A parade through downtown
Exeter at noon officially got the
program under way.
The Brahma bulls again proved
to be a real crowd pleaser, as
they gave their riders plenty to
worry about, as did the bucking
broncs, the calf -roping and
bull dogging competitions.
Another event which proved to
be quite popular with the
younger generation was the Little
Britches Calf Riding contest,
which was open to area youths
only.
Throughout the two-day event
the Zurich Lions Club operated
a booth selling home baked
beans, while members of the
Hensall Western Horsemen served
tasty barbequed beef.
Mr. and Mrs. Michael Hartman

past week at the home of her
daughter and son-in-law, Mr.
and Mrs. Paul Edwards and
family in London.
Mr. and Mrs. Jerome Sweeney
and girls spent the weekend with
