One of them is the irrespressible Max Ferguson, refreshed from his Cape Breton holiday and ready to fire off a few rockets at the newsmakers of the clay. He'll be back at his morning weekday stand, along with sidekick Allan McFee on September 8. Returning for its second season is the Toronto edition of After Noon with hosts Alex Trebek, Juliette and Bruce Marsh. This delightfully informal music and conversation show is heard live from the Colonnade Theatre Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. Another series that's been on for nearly a year now is Voice of the Pioneer (Sundays) --re- miniscences by some of the people who've witnessed the making of Canada's early history. Beginning September 7, Ernest Maunder recalls the early days before Newfoundland became Canada's tenth province. He remembers the great fire of 1892, and the time when St. John's harbour was filled with white -masted schooners. Mauder also compares the activities of today's teenagers with some of his own hijinks. The late Premier Maurice Duplissis of Quebec comes to life again on Charbonneau and Le Chef, the fascirlating radio drama which is to be repeated on CBC Tuesday night, Sept- ember 16. With the exception of the American mill owner, producer Earl Pennington used an all French-Canadian cast. Jean Lajeunesse and Rene Caron star as Archbishop Charbonneau and Le Chef (Duplessis). It was Caron's Englisn-language debut although he has played in some 140 French films and made - countless stage, radio and TV appearances. Another CBC Tuesday Night presentation of interest, espec- ially to art lovers, is Picasso: A Cubist Portrait, broadcast September 9. Essentially it's a look at the different facets of • the great Spanish artist; Picasso and Surrealism; Picasso and'Wom• en; Picasso as sculptor; Picasso and Money; Picasso and Politics; Picasso and the Human Face. Prominent among those interviewed on the program is Franchise Gilot, his mistress for more than a decade, mother of two of his four children, and author of Life with Picasso. It seems there's no limit to the kinds of things that can be dramatized. Now, it's water pollution. On Between Ourselves (September 11) a Calgary pro- duction presents Three Polluted Maidens, a fairy tale by Jack Peach. In this musical play, three pure little lady raindrops join a river for the journey to the sea. En route they encounter a group of high -living germs and the rakes, products of poll- ution, seduce the maidens and reduce them to a level of sin and degradation. A new and different way to point out the perils of pollution, an increasing hazard in our once -sparkling lakes and rivers.
