Mr. and Mrs. N. Cantin of
Detroit were Sunday last visitors
with the former's mother, Mrs.
Valerie C antin.
Mr. and Mrs. Roy Forbes and
family of Sarnia, were in their
cottage which they are building
at Ducharme's Beach. The
Forbes family are planning on
spending several weeks when
their cottage will be suitable
for that purpose.
Mrs. Alva Mcrae of Courtright
spent the weekend with Mr. and.
Mrs. Fred Ducharme of .this
highway. Mrs. Mcrae is a cou-
sin to Mrs. Ducharme.
Cars travelling the Bluewater
is almost countless day and
night. Many each weekend go
to their cottage to make minor
repairs to them for further use.
Mr. and Mrs. Pfaff of London
in company with Mr. and Mrs.
Thomas Brock also of London,
spent the weekend with Mr. and
Mrs. Brock in their cottage at
Bay View summer resort.
Mrs. Adeline Denomme of this
highway spent the weekend in
London attending the marriage of
a grand daughter.
Mrs. Garfield Denomme also
of this highway, spent a few
days in London visiting with her
husband who is a patient in St.
Joseph's Hospital.
By the time this script is printed
there will be a week of summer
passed and we can truthfully say -
they were not summer days.
This wet and broken weather
brings back memories to the
older people of more than two
generations agr . When the sprint
time was nice, the farmers got
their seeding in and everything
seemed to be flourishing. In
the beginning occasional showers
were welcome by the farmers
for quick growth of their seeding.
Well the result of that summer
was a three-month rain and of
course that was much more than
the necessary amount needed
and what happened, farmers
could not get on their land to
cut their grain. On some farms
two spans of horses were hooked
on a binder, reaper or even a
mower to cut their grain. Others
got on high top boots to wade in
places more than two feet deep
of water to cradle their crops
which were floating from one
side of the field to the other
pushed by the winds. As you
know there is always a stop to
evil things the rain caused. The
cash crops to fanners those years
was wheat that was lost on many
farms.
Well, already we have a month
passed of broken weather so just
keep waiting and accept what
comes. It will mean another
, set back to the farms to add
• to their income as many others
they have to continue with as
!time passes on.
• Farmers hold the basic industry
of our country and when anything
brews up against their income
the country feels it and could
cause much disappointment. In
the commercial business let us
hope that nothing of that sort
will happen this year and not be
a replica of that summer of more

than two generations ago. Per-
haps no other country can boast
of saying this, look around,
travel here and there and be
convinced the prosperity of all
will be your answer.
Should it be a wet summer
as afore said there is no other
course to follow but accept it
, and make te best of it even
though your last seeding, namely
' beans, should be a failure it
• could go hard on the young
' farmers. But it has happened
before to the older farmers
and they have survived through
it all.
Litter can cause accidents.
Broken glass on the highway can
cause a blow-out, flying paper
can abscure a driver's view at
a cruical moment and boxes of
metal or wood on the road can
cause a driver to swerve. Do
your part to keep Ontario's
highways clean and safe. Don't
litter the highways.
