Charlies Top Bluewater 13-7
In Rec Softball Action Wednesday

Decker started a seven run rally
in the first inning with a diiublee
each as Charlies Auto Sales top-
ped Bluewatcr 13-7 last Wednes-
day night in Rec league action,
I<evin McKinnon went the dis-
tance on the mound allowing
only nine 'tits to leughten las
winning streak to four games.
The loss \c'ent to Rick Jdffery of
the Bluewater, as he suffered his
fifth loss. Rick allowed Charlies
to score in only two of the nine
innings pitched and gave up
twelve hits.
Jeffery, walked four batters in
the first inning, doubles by heck.
er and Turklteint and singles by
Doug Stade and Gary Flaxbard
gave Charlies their seven runs.
Bluewater was allowed onl\ one
pian on base until the third inn-
ing when they tightened the
score with four runs off four
hits, a double by Steve Denontmc
and singles by Dick Bedard,
Gerard Ducharme and Larry
Denontnte,
Dick Bedard's double and single
by Rick Jeffery and Percy Bedard
tied the score in the fourth.
Bluewater held Charlies score-
less for four consecutive innings
but then in the sixth Brian Deck-
er tripled and Dave Stark and
Jerry Rader singled igniting a
six run rally.
Bluewater loaded the bases in
the bottom of the inning but
carne up with only one run.
Brian Decker led Charlies at
the bar with a double and a -
triple. Erick Bedard was Blue -
water's power supplying a double
and two singles for three hits.
The win kept Charlies one
game behind the high flying
Gingerichs, while the Bluewatcr
loss was their sixth. '
Umpires for the ganie were
Abbie Hoffman and Joe Deno-
mme.
Charlies will he losing catcher
Brian Decker for a few weeks, so
they probably will move third
baseruan Gary Flaxbard into
Decker's ,osition.
The Barger Boys have signed
up another former baseball
player Larry Bedard as of last
Wednesday night to try to stren-
ghten their team in fighting
against the hot Gin,erichs and
Charlies teams.
Next Wednesday nigh' at the
softball park the Barber Boys
will be playing host to the
second place Charlies Auto Sales.
Nevin McKinnon and Phil Over-
holt clash together in a pitching
duel. Last rinse these two pit-
chers faced each other there
were only three hits separating
them. Down at the lake, Rich
Jeffery and Rick Shantz face
each other as Gingerichs meet
the Bluewater.
Gary Flaxbard tied the batting
race with Lloyd Lostell each
batting .655.

proved to be disastrous for the
Barbers in their bid for a second
win this season as their ti - 4
lead was dashed by an eight
run (lingerie'' rally. The Barber
Boys hard taken an early lead in
the first when Gingeriehs allowed
theist four talks and three sing-
les for six runs. Gingerichs
scored only one run in the first,
and things were very close for
the next three and a half innings
as only three runs were scored
all by Gingerichs. In the fifth
Gingerichs exploded on a com-
bination of four hits, two walks,
and three Barber Boy errors.
They tallied eight runs, giving
theta the lead which they held
on to for the rest of the game.
Barbers tried to make a come-
back with two runs in rhe seven-
th and three in the eighth, but
their powerful opponents also
added four and two runs respect-
ively in those same innings.
The final score was Gingerichs
18, Barber Boys 11 and to retain
sole possession of first place with
a flawless record of six straight
wins.
Gingerichs winning attack
was led by Don Parsons with two
singles and a triple, while Cliff
Gingerich and Tony Bedard each
added two hits to rhe cause.
Jim Ranier, Rick Shantz, Gord
Smith and John Gascho each
had one hit. For the losing
Barber Boys, Bob Merner, Phil
Overholt and Larry Bedard each
socked out three hits,
Richard Shantz, who relieved
his brother, Gerald, in the
first inning, was credited with
the victory , his sixth of the
season. The loss went to Shane
McKinnon who replaced Phil
Overholt in rhe fourth 'While rhe
Barbers were still leading,
Umpires for the game were
George Sweeney and George
Haggitt.
