Among those who returned from overseas to this area during the past couple of weeks were Lieutenant H. J. Siemon, Pri- vates D. F. Zirke, Carl Schnell, John Debus and Elmore Daters. Zurich and Bayfield baseball teams played a pante in Bay- field recently with the former coming out on the long end of a 7 - 5 score. Alfred Bender left Zurich on Alonday for the city of Winnipeg, where he has secured a fine position with a large shoe store. Corporal Ed Munn and George Harburn returned to their home in 1-1ensall area, from overseas. 40 Years Ago JUNE, 1929 The town of Clinton has decid- ed that it will allow it's new fire fighting unit to o out into neighbouring townships in case of fire. David Plante, of St. Joseph, left last week for a visit to his native province of Quebec. It is 31 )ears ago since he visited his native home. The frame work on the new barn being erected for Peter Deichert, Jr., on the Blind Line, 1 lay Township, is now all in place, and within the next few days the siding should all be in place. A. G. Edighoffer is making vast improvements to his property beside the Commercial Hotel in Zurich. Al] the ground has been levelled off, and a bandstand erected on the lot, which proves to he the centre of attraction every Saturday night. Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Restemayet have returned from their honey- moon trip and are getting nicely settled on their farm on the Bronson Line, north of Dashwood, 25 Years Ago JUNE, 1944 A pretty wedding took place at the home of the bride's par- ents when Leila Margaret, eldest daughter of 1\1r, and Mrs. Henry Clausius, was united in marriage to Edmund George Becker, son of Mrs. Henry Becker, Dashwood, The parsonage of the Ontario Street United Church, Clinton, was the scene of a pretty wedd- ing when Lena Grace, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Orval Rapson of Londeshoro, wac i 1 in marr- iage to Clare C oruk `.ir•Bride, of Stanley Township. ,Ilerbert K. Eilber, who has been clerk and treasurer of the Township of Stephen for the past ten years, has tendered his resignation from that position due to ill health. Mrs. D. Welks, of Hensall, who is a keen lover of flowers has planted to date a total of over 1000 gladiolus bulbs. , At the annual meetings of the Huron -Perth Liberal Association held in 1-lensall, Albert J. Kalb- fleisch, of Zurich, was elected treasurer, while Ivan Kalbfleisch and Jacob Haberer were elected as local chairmen for Hay Town- ship and the village of Zurich. 15 Years Ago JUNE, 1954 Oscar Greb, of the Babylon Line, Hay Township, had the misfortune to receive minor injuries in a tractor mishap at his farm, but fortunately there were no hones broken. Airs. Barbara Surerus has returned to Zurich after being a resident in Montreal for the past few years. Rather unseasonable weather has been visiting these parts for the past few days, and the temperature has climbed up into the high 80's on several occasions. A. j, Addison. A neat two -hit pitching effort turned in by manager, Don O'Brien enabled the Zurich Kings to come up with a decisive 10-0 victory over St. Marys last Wednesday night. William Sturdevant was lelected president of the Grand Bend Lions Club at the annual meeting of that organization last Thursday night. Arnie Meyer, of Harbour Beach, Michigan, has returned to Zurich for `the summer season, and will again play ball for the local Lutn)ierkings. This is the third summer in a row that lie has conte back to play for the locals. According to information given to the Citizens News this week, Hensall UCW Hold General Meeting Hensall UCW Genaral Meeting was held Monday evening June 16 with president Mrs. Vern Alder - dice who chaired the meeting opening with a reading in honour of Father since the meeting was t the next day after Father's Day.
