Sweaters play a timeless
fashion role; in classic shapes
or adapted to meet styling de-
mands for both casual an I more
formal wear, the modern miss
can have a sweater wardrobe
that is easy to care for and safe
front such traditional enemies as
moths, mildew, matting and
pilling. But she must follow a
tew simple basic rifles to keep
her sweater looking as fresh and
lovely as wilen she bought it.
in order to ger full value for
dollars spent on this popular
item in your wardrobe, Consum-
ers' Association of Canada stress
rite importance of always read-
ing the manufacturers' instruct -
'
ions. Don't guess at the proper
method or you are likely to end
up wearing the consequences.
if you are fortunate to have the
instructions on a sewn -in label,
you should have Ito problem,
but in the event your instructions
are on hang tags, be sure to note
any special instructions and save
them for future reference, If you
have any doubts as to how to han-
dle the article, ask rhe sales
clerk if the sweater is washable
or has to he dry cleaned and
have this information written on
the hill of sale for your future
protection.
Ilere is some basic information
on tl>9:,meaning of terms used to
describe the best cleansing meth-
od for your garnet:
)land washing: with a natural
fibre such as wool or mohair,
wash in warm water with soap or
detergent, squeeze gentley and
rinse thoroughly in at least ttio
changes of cod or lukewarm
water to stake sure you remove
all soap or detergent, tIf any
remains in the fibres, it will
dull the colors and stake the
sweater stiff. To dry, first
roll the sweater in a towel to
remove excess moisture, and
then lay it flat on a towel to
dry.
Machine washable: sweaters
knit with ratan -made fibres such
as "Orlon" acrylic or DuPont
nyl on or "Antron" nylon, may
usually be machine washed.
But even with these, there are
a few things to remember if you
want them to retain their beauty.
If the gannet has closings such
as buttons or zippers, make sure
they are done up. Always turn
the gamier inside out, so that
any wear caused by the machine
will occur on the inside surface.
Set the machine for a short
cycle and for warns water --never
hot, You will, of course, sep-
arate coloureds from whites
before washing to snake sure that
no color bleeds into the whites.
You can tumble dry .but at a low
setting. Many roan -made fibres
are helped hack into shape by
tumble drying.
Stretch sweaters: a stretch
like "Lycra" spandex hates high
heat and chlorine bleach, so
avoid both. "Lycra" takes a
gentle tumble drying and you wil
find this process will bounce it
back into its original shape.
Because of the treatment given
during manufacture, sweaters
either blended or totally knit
with natural fibres may range all
tl'e way from "washable" to
"dry clean only". Once again,
the tag yr label should tell you.
Never hang up a knitted gar-
ment, it can sag and stretch out
of shape. Store sweaters flat,
prefereably in plastic bags to
keep theta fresh and clean.
When it comes to ironing, if
you must press your sweater, use
a cool or steam iron with a damp
cloth and press inside out.
Ilopefully in the future, man-
ufacturers of quality sweaters
will see fit to affix sewn -in lab-
el instructions, hut until this
becomes a wide -spread practise,
the consumer will have to be
on her toes when laundering
sweaters.
If you have any problems with
misleading washing instructions o
sweaters, you would help by

Crop Report
The recent favourable weather
has produced good growing con-
ditions. Most of the spring
grains are up and growing well,
plus a lot of spraying of grains
and corn has been done.
Almost all the beans are plant-
ed now. Some farmers have
starred to cur hay for haylagc.
Almost everyone else has a good
organization working for them.
Farmers need a better one.

obtain membership.
We need one organization,
strong enough to keep up with
agricultural advancement,
Two instances come to mind
where we are behind this advanc-
ement.
1. our production has surpassed
our available markets.
2. dairy and butter spreads are
being marketed but are still
being taxed for Excise tax be-
cause they are not on the list of
exempted goods.
Ladies, we have been given a

chance to say what kind or an
organization we want. We can
not live in a little community
anymore, what we produce
and sell are affected by the
world's situations.
Let's get out and vote on June
24 and have a say in our agricult-
ural happenings. If we don't
turn out in a large percentage
we may not be given another
chance.
So vote on June 24,
Yours sincerely,
Mrs. Ed Hunking,
