Agriculture Committee of House
Visits Farms in Huron County

-MP and a member of the agri-
culture committee of the House,
accompanied other members
of his group on a tour through
Iluron, Bruce and Perth counties
last Saturday. The committee
was concluding a trip w•hiclt
took them to visit farms in Que-
bec and Ontario, as well as
portions of the eastern provinces.
The committee visited Huron
County farms --. the 1•lhur acre
cash crop and beef operation of
William Rowcliffe near Ilensa11
and 11n -acre dairy and broiler
operation taken over by two
young bachelor brothers, Alfred
and Bert Dy kstra, near Clinton,
to some of the large beef and
cash crop operations rhe comm-
ittee had seen earlier in Kent
County.
\r 1)\kstra's however, they saw
a farm that wasn't nearly as
tidy hut more common 111 size
to rbc area. The two brothers --
Alfred 26 and Bert21--have
recently formed a partnership
and are buying the farm from
their father with a Junior Farm-
er loan.
"We probably wouldn"t have
been able to take the farm over
if h hadn't been a fancily farm"
Alfred told the committee.
The boys have room for 18, moth
broilers and recently expanded
the ole( Karn for their 3:) milking
cows,
"We got a good deal on a sec-
ond hand pipeline or we wouldn't
have been able to put that in"
added Alfred.
When the tour was ready to
trove on, \lurray \1e13ride, Lib-
eral nlenther for Lanark -Renfrew
told the brothers:
"We've had a hard time con-
vincing ourselves there is poverty

National PC President Asks For
Change in Attitude of Supporters
