RADER, Correspondent) a birthday party tor Miss May Hodgins of the Blue Water Rest Horne in honor of her approach - MOTHER AND DAUGHTER BANQUET The May meeting of the United Church Women of Calvary United Church was a mother and daughter banquet in pot- luck style with Mrs. Harry Hoffman's group in charge. A toast to the mothers was made by Dianne Weber replied to by Mrs. Hugh Boyle. Debbie Riddell and Patricia Bender played several piano and acc- ordian selections. Everyone joined in on a sing -song of appropriate mother -daughter songs. A reading by Mrs. Eben Wie- gand explained how Mother's J)ay originated. Mrs. Irvin Schade favoured with a poem. Mrs. Jessie Rader read the scripture and Mrs. Clayton Merrier led in prayer. Chair - lady, Mrs. Don Gaiser introduc- ed the guest speaker, Mrs. How- ard Zurbrigg,' who spoke on motherhood. Prizes were award- ed to Mrs, Wes Wolfe, oldest mother present and Faye Gaiser, youngest daughter. President, Mrs. Eben Weigand conducted a short business meet- ing. An invitation to attend a Tulip Tea, May 21, at Cent- ralia United Church, was acc- epted. It was decided to spon- sor a child to camp at Camp Bimini. A card of thanks was read from the Children's Aid for the donation of pyjamas and crib quilts. Mrs. Harold Hend- rick was welcomed as a member. A strawberry social will be held June 25. PIANO RECITAL Mrs. Harold Stire held a piano recital for her pupils at Dashwood Community Centre, T ram Tuesday, May1 . A 3 program of duets and solos was featured. Theugils presented resented Mrs. Stire with a gift.Games and lunch rounded out the evening. BRIDAL SHOWER Mrs. Irvin Rader, Mrs. Lloyd Howe of London, and Mrs. Fred Miller of Zion were hostesses for a miscellaneous shower Fri- day, May 16, at the community centre, for Miss Eleanor Wein, bride -elect of June. Contests and a mock wedding were enjoyed. Miss Fay Schlenker and Mrs. Ken Genttner assisted Eleanor in opening e nin ggthe many Y lovely gifts for w-hich she �Qracious 1 Y thanked all and invited them to visit her at her home in Dashwood. Lunch was served. Several Dashwood ladies joined with the Grand Bend W. I. for a chartered bus trip to Niagara Falls, the Adelaide Hoodless homestead and other points of interest last Thursday. BIRTHDAY CELEBRATIONS Mrs. Louella Tieman held a birthday party on Mother's Day for her mother, Mrs. Susan Merner, on the occasion of her 93rd birthday. Present for the event were Mrs. Verna Bosck, Mr. and Mrs. Jack Raschke of Detroit; Mrs. Elliot Bartliff, Clinton; Mr. and Mrs. Milford Merner; Mr. and Mrs. Elgin Merner, Kitchener and Mr. and Mrs. Arnold Merner, Zurich.
