New Fire Truck
Delivered For
Brucefield Brigade
The reeves of Tuckersnrith
and Stanley townships took
official possession of the new
Brueefield fire truck last Tues-
day evening. The $13, 300
pumper arrived from the C. E.
Hickey and Son plant, in
Hamilton about a month ago and
has been used on two calls,
It is owned jointly by the two
townships and will be operated
by the 20 -member Brucefield
volunteer fire department. It
replaces a 1949 model which is
to be sold. The brigade also has
an army truck equipped with a
1,000 gallon water tank and a
portable pump,
Fire Chief Stewart Broadfoot
said the new truck makes his
department fully equipped. The
townships also share a four-year-
old fire hall at Brucefield and
the building sits atop large
water tanks for refilling the
pumper.
Dan Daley of Galt, represent-
ing the Hamilton firer, turned
the keys over Tuesday night to
Stanley Reeve Elmer Hayter and
Tuckcrsmith Reeve Elgin Thomp-
son in a brief ceremony attend-
ed by many of the firemen and
members of both councils.
The new truck carries full
equipment for eight men along
with two air masks. One non-
functional feature of the truck -
hand worked gold leaf striping -
has been admired by observers.

Everyone Welcome
From
My Window
(continued from page 2)
breaking memories about their
drunken parents.
Many families spend the baby
bonus on clothes and shoes for
the children, perhaps better
clothes and shoes than the
child needs or is good for him,
Others put the money toward
dental bills, doctor bills, food
bills, education bills, the
real purpose of the baby bonus
but not of too much value un-
less there is a large family and
a thrifty mother.
I'm sorry to see the baby
bonus go. It conies as a plea-
sant supplement to the family
budget. But I suppose we can
scrape by without it, and if it
does something to steady the
cost of living, I'll gladly
relinquish it today.
