Now, don't ask nie why politicians have chosen to cut expenses through the baby bonus or I'm apt to ask you a question like "Why not for good- ness sake?" That's right. Why not cut out the baby bonus? Although I'm just as pleased as anyone else when the baby bonus arrives on the 20th of each month, 1 still ask why it should he retain- ed favour of other vital servies. Or maybe those who oppose the Trudeau government's suggestion regarding baby bonus are among those dunderheaded idiots who clamor for increased government expenditures and ewer taxes. Now that would be an accomplishment of some magnitude, wouldn't it? You're not quite that foolish en? Ycu actually realize the country can't continue to spend more than it takes in. You ar.2 read) to admit it is just possible that a federal government budget is basically the same as a grocery budget - if You are allotted $25 per week and you are spending $35 time and time again, you are soon in trouble. Either you don't have the stoney to pay the fuel and the hydro, or you have to cut back the nice little frilly extras, like habysitters and booze and new clothes and gas- . cline and similar luxury items. Or, if you have grown so accust- omed to the better things in life, you may chose to omit certain convenience foods like instant chocolate for the milk and whipped topping for the pie and fresh fruit for the salad or cream for the coffee. Ycu get the picture. Compton sense Rives the answer every time. Prime Minister Trudeau isn't going to be a popular loan with the voter, I suppose, but he should be. Those wc.rds I can understand. The man has finally shown me his worth and I'!n impressed. I was getting pretty weary of the sante old gobbly-gook most politicians use - either Marne the trouble on the other parties or give the people the run around about the projected fig- ures and the gross national product, or some such garbage. But what really grabs me ab- out this whole thing is the kind of people who are most con- cerned about the possible demise of the baby bonus. The loudest complainers are folks who are making plenty of money to feed and clothe their youngsters without a government subsidy. A few hoots hnd hollars are corning from people without a child or a chick to support, and of course, there are cries from the die-hard Tories who pre- dicted lunacy when the Liberals first introduced legislation and now who foresee dire disaster at the first hint of the program's end. It would he interesting to take a study on the ways the baby bonus is spent each month in the average family across Canada. Sonie families stash the month- ly endowment in the baril< each month and then gloat over the great sacrifice they have made on the child's behalf, Some monis and dads use that dgift to pay for a monthly wing - ing with the kids getting heart - (please turn to page 7) VILLAGE OF ZURICH PUBLIC NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN THAT Dogs in the Village Must Not Run At Large By-law No, 46, 1964, section 7, says: "No person shall allow any animal to run at large or •trespass within the limits of the Village of Zurich".
