FIRST OF THE SEASON —Probably the
first farmer throughout the area who was on
the land last week was Al Scholl, RR 2, Hensall,
who took advantage of both the fine weather
and his well -drained land to get an early start
on his spring seeding. Mr. Sohol1 is seen here
as he cultivates and harrows one of his better
fields.
Zurich Flyers Win WOAA Title
After being only two seconds
away nom elimination in the sec-
ond game of the series, the Zurich
Flyers roared back strong to win
the game and then take the third
game as well, and win the WOAA
Intermediate D grand champion-
ship.
Kurtsville had won the first
game of the series in Zurich in a
thrilling overtime session, and
were leading 6-5 with only two
seconds remaining in the second
game played at Palmerston, when
Jim Pfaff banged in a loose puck tc
tie the score. The locals went on
to win the game 8-6 in overtime.
In the third game of the series
in Palmerston on Friday night, the
Zurich crew thumped Kurtsville
9-4.

Suplat in the first period gave the
locals a temporary 2-0 lead. How-
ever, early in the second session
Kurtsville roared back strong with
two quick goals to tie the score at
2-2. Larry Willert shat the locals
into a 3-2 lead at 8.58, only to
have the homeseers come back witl
the equalizer at the ten-minute
mark. With four minutes left to
play in the period Suplat let go
another of his famous slap shots and
beat the Kurtsville goalie and give
Zurich a 4-3 lead.
Two early goals in the third
period gave Kurtsville a lead
which held up through most of the
stanza. At the 19.38 mark,
however, Bob Carlile registered
for Zurich to tie the score at
5-5, and made the game look
as if there would be an overtime
session. The tie did not last long
and at the 19.46 mark Kurtsville
scored what looked like the win-
ing$oal. This set the stage for
;.#he'eritiiiatic. comeback by Zur-
ich with only two seconds to play.
It was Zurich all the way in
the overtime period, and at 4.03
Bob.Merner banged in the winning
goal on a neat pass from Ken
Smale. With 30 seconds left to
play Jim Pfaff scored his second
goal of the night into an empty
Kurtsville net.

Paced by Bob Carlile with three
goals, Earl Wagner and George
Suplat with two each, the Zurich
Flyers ran wild over the Kurtsville
crew in the third period on Friday
night. Bob Johnston and Jim Pfaff
each scored one.
Zurich opened the scoring in
the first period when Wagner
banged in his first goal of the
game, but Kurtsville retaliated
with two quick goals to take a
temporary lead. Carlile then
scored his first goal of the game
to tie the score, but before the
period ended the favoured

21 Vacancies In Teaching
Staff dor Huron Schools
Resignations of 16 teachers were
considered by Huron County Board
of Education meeting in Clinton
last Monday Night. This brings
to 21 the number of teaching
positions in Huron schools which
are vacant.
Starting on the task of appoint-
ing replacements, board officials
will sit Saturday at a central hir-
ing depot established at Clinton
Public School. In the morning
teachers wishing to transfer be-
tween schools in Huron will be
interviewed. In the afternoon
officials will meet teachers apply-
ing from without the county.
The lack of secondary school
teachers prompted the board to
approve a letter to Ontario
Education Minister William Davis,
drawing his attention to the diffi-
culties the shortage was creating.

Injured Girl Listed
As Improving Now
Susan Luther, 12, of Hensall,
was listed in satisfactory condition
Tuesday night at South Huron
Hospital, with a fractured pelvis
suffered about 5:30 p.m., Friday,
when a car struck the horse she
was riding in Hay Township.
The car was driven by Brian
Fields, 16, of R R 2, Hensall.
The girl was turning off a conces-
sion road into the laneway of
Harold Elder's farm when the coll-
ision occurred and she was thrown
off.
The horse, owned by Mr. Elder,
a family friend, had to be destro-
yed. Miss Luther is a daughter of
Mr. and Mrs. Eric Luther.

Tenders for alterations to
Clinton Secondary School to
provide accommodation for the
board and staff are being called
and close April 21. In the mean-
time and until the new accommo-
dation is ready, the staff will con-
tinue to occupy temporary office
accommodation in Huron County
Court House at Goderich.
The board named a budget
review committee to consider a
draft of a budget presented by
officials. .Members of the comm-
ittee are trustees Hicks, Zinn and
Henderson. A financial report
prepared by board .2aditor A. M.
Harper and covering the first
three months operations was
accepted.
Huron will be represented at a
conference of school business
officials by business administra-
tor Roy Dunlop. The board ap-
provedhis attendance at the
Ottawa meeting April 28-30.

ROAD OFFICIALS MEET
Harvey Culbert of R R 6, Gode-
rich, was elected president Mon-
day of the Huron County Road
Superintendents' Association, suc-
ceeding Melvin Good of Colborne
Township. He is road superintend-
ent for West W awanosh Township.
Other officers elected at the
annual meeting were:vice-presi-
dent, Karl Haberer, Zurich;
secretary -treasurer, Clarence
Hanna, Belgrave. About 30 road
superintendents attended.
Speakers Roger Verescheauer
and Ross Jackson, both department
of highways engineers at Stratford,
discussed gravel contracts and
road building standards during the
meeting.
THEY'RE OFF AND WALKING—Students of St. Boni-
face School, Zurich, staged a walk to Exeter last Saturday in
support of the South Huron Association for Mentally Retarded.
The children, along with three of their teachers, completed the
walk in just over four thours, and raised about S50 for the Asso-
ciation through their efforts. The entire group are seen. here ,as
they prepare to leave the school at nine o'clock in the morning.
