Wilfred McBride has engaged
with F. M. Hess, as an assistant
in the carriage business in Zurich.
Joseph Gascho and family of the
14th concession has moved into
Zurich in the home recently
vacated by Jacob Howald.
Simon Greb, of the Babylon Line,
has purchased the farm adjoining
his, from George Broderick, of
London. He will get possession
this spring.
Mr. and Mrs. F. W. Smalla-
combe and family have left Hensall
for the west where they will make
their new home.
The village of Dashwood turned
out in full force on Saturday
evening to honour Sapper Earl
Guenther, on his return from over-
seas. The entire streets were
lined with people all anxious to
greet their hero.
Private William Otterbein re-
turned to Kippen last week, after
serving overseas for a number of
years.
C. and J. McDonell have sold
their jewellery business in Hensall
to Mr. Montgomery, of Seaforth.
Frank Badour has purchased the
place back from Joseph Rau, near
Drysdale, which he formerly had
owned.
40 Years Ago
APRIL, 1929
Another severe storm passed
over this area on Monday, and
left most people without hydro
power until the following Tuesday
afternoon.
Miss Margaret Myers has resigned
her position as teacher at SS 5,
Stanley, and Mrs. L. W. Hoffman
of Zurich has been engaged to fill
out the term.
The clerk of Hay Township was
instructed to obtain prices on a
double steel cell which could be
used for a lock-up in the Town-
ship Hall.
Lightning early Friday morning
struck the barn on the farm of
Peter Deichert, on the Blind Line,
and the building burned to the
ground. Fortunately, most of
Frank McClinchey, who has
been accountant with the Bank of
Montreal in Zurich for the past
two and a half years, has severed
his connections with that. business
and has accepted a good position
in Seaforth.
The Cotton Pickers, a travelling
group of Negro performers, drew
a large crowd of people to their
show which they presented in the
Hay Township Hall.
25 Years Ago
APRIL, 1944
Mr. and Mrs. Theodore Laporte
and family of the Bluewater High-
way near Drysdale, have left for
Windsor where they plan to take up
residence.
Mrs. Henry F. Weseloh, of the
south end of the village of Zurich,
has sold her dwelling property along
with some six acres of land, to Mr.
and Mrs. Fred Regier, who get
possession this spring.
Mr. and Mrs. Herman Dayman
of Hensall will be leaving for
London where they have purchased
a grocery business on Adelaide
Street, The Dayrnans formerly
operated a Superior store in Hensall,
until it was destroyed by fire two
years ago.
The County of Huron is distribu-
ing a large number of young trees
for planting purposes, and anyone
wanting some of these should apply
to their clerks of the municipality
as soon as possible.
Corporal Fred Beer of London
and LAC John Beer of Guelph were
recent visitors at their home in
..Hensall, for a few days leave.
j Mr. and Mrs. John Hazelwoodof,
Kippen, moved on Monday into
the home they purchased in Hens -
all from Mr. and Mrs. James
Simpson.

GIRL GUIDES TEA—Last Saturday after-
noon was thu date for the annual bake sale,
bazaar and tea sponsored by the Zurich Girl
Guides, and in this photo a couple of area
family are moving to London.
The town and community was
shocked laste Sunday afternoon
when it was revealed that the body
of Lennis O'Brien was found life-
less lying near a small creek at
the fairgrounds. The departed
was always a great lover of the
outdoors, and was an outstanding
ball and hockey player in his
younger days.
Troopers Robert Fischer and
Robert Forrester. who have been
training at Petawawa for the past
few months, have both been
transferred to Camp Borden.
Gerald Gingerich, who has been
employed for the past number of
years with the Harry Hess electri-
cal business, has taken over that
portion of the Hess business, and
will now operated on his own in
the electrical field.
Ivan Kalbfleisch and Dennis
Bedard, both of Zurich, were
chosed as delegates to the nomina-
tion convention of the Ontario
Liberal Association.

APRIL, 1959
Rev, W. Paul Fischer, a native
of Walkerton, has accepted a
call to be minister of St. Peter's
Lutheran Church, in Zurich, and
will be moving in June.
Close to 1,000 seven -week old
chicks were lost in a fire that
caused considerable damage to
the barn of Amos Gingerich, at
Blake.
The 100th grandchild to Mr. and
Mrs. James Masse, Canada's
largest family, was born this week
to Mr. and Mrs. Leo Masse, of
!London.
A fox which was found to be
rabid, was found on the farm of
Russell Oesch, in Stanley Town-
ship.
Construction is to start soon on
a $71,500 contract for improve-
ments to the south side of the
harbour at Grand Bend,

Couple Honored On
25th Anniversary
A surprise party was held
Saturday, April 5, in honor of
the 25th wedding anniversary of
Mr. and Mrs, Gordon Schwalm.
The party was held at the home of
Mr, and Mrs. Bill Scrabuik, Mr.
Scrabuik being a brother of Mrs.
Schwalm. Seventeen were
present. The happy couple were
the recipients of many beautiful
gifts from friends and relatives.
Out of town guests were Mr. and
Mrs. Don Coghlin and daughter
Debbie, of Atwood, and Bill
Scrabuik of Burwash. Department
of Reforms, who was home for
the Easter holiday.
A lovely card and gifts were
received from Mrs. Schwalm's
Mother in Port Arthur.
