Zurich Flyers Win Group Title
The Zurich Flyers last Friday
night won the group championship
in WOAA Intermediate D Hockey,
when they downed Monkton Wild-
cats 7-5 in the fifth game of the
series. On Wednesday night in
Zurich they ran wild over the
Wildcats and downed them 11-2
in the fourth game of the best -of -
seven affair.
Even though they won the series
in five games, the Flyers lost the
services of their star goaltender
Gary Geoffrey, who suffered a
serious injury to his right hand
in the dying minutes of the Fri day
night game. In some manner
a Monkton player stepped on his
bare hand and severely cut the
tendohs on the back of it. He is
to undergo surgery on the hand
this week, and will be on the•
disabled list for some time.
ZURICH 7 - MONKTON 5
Zurich scored three goals in
the first, one in the second and
then added three more in the third
to wind up the series on Friday
night. Monkton scored three
in the first and two in the third.
Ball Wagner was the big gun
for Zurich with three goals, while
Bob Carlile and Barry Bloch each
scored twice.
The injury to Geoffrey came
with only three minutes to play
in the game, and he was replaced
by Shane McKinnon. His play up
until the time of the injury had
been sensational, as he turned
aside shot after shot by the hard -
pressing Wildcats. Medical at-
tention was given to the injured
player at Atwood.

The Flyers carne up with one
of their best efforts of the season
on Wednesday night, before a
large crowd of local fans, as they
soundly trounced the Monkton crew
11-2. They led 2-1 at the end of
the first, increased this lead to 8-
2 by the end of the second, and
then scored three more insurance
goals in the third period.
Three players, Earl Wagner,
Bob Johnston and Bob Carlile,
each scored two goals for Zurich,
while Ken Smale, Dick Bedard,
Jim Pfaff, Pete Postill and Shane
Dashwood Bears Eliminate Zurich In
Rec League Play; Meet Hensall Next
The Dashwood Bears defeated
the Zurich'iCngs 6-3 last Thur-
sday night'fn'the fifth game of
the best -of -five semi-final series
in Zurich Rec League hockey. By
virtue of their win they now meet
Hensall in the final round for the
championship,
A goal by Bud Desjardine with
less than two minutes to play in
the forst period gave Dashwood a
1-0 lead. However, in the second
session the Kings came back strong
with two unanswered goals. With
only 30 seconds gone in the period
Gerald Shantz scored from just
inside the blueline to even the
count at 1-1. At the 7.55 mark
Jim Pfaff cashed in on a neat
passing play with Earl Wagner
and Dick Bedard to give the Kings
a 2-1 lead.
In the third period Dashwood
carne on strong and in the matter
of 14 minutes Bud Desjardine had
come up with his second goal;
Pat McKeever scored; and then
Bill Hoffman registered twice, to
give the Bears a 5-2 lead. At
18.24 Earl Wagner scored a pic-
ture goal when he deked tyler, in
the Dashwood net, but just as the
period and game ended Jim Hay-
ter rifled a drive past Percy Bedard
to give the visitors a 6-3 verdict.
A total of seven penalties were
handed out in the game, with
five of them going to Dashwood
and two to Zurich. Bob Hoffman
and Percy Bedard were both

given penalties in the third period
for high sticking.

Win First Game
With Larry Lovie scoring the
winning goal at the 3.25 mark
in overtime, the Dashwood Bears
took the opening game of their
final series with the Hensall
Generals on Monday night, when
they rung up a 7-6 score. The
game was played in the Zurich
Arena, before a couple of hun-
dred rabid fans.
The second game in this series
will be played in Zurich this
Thursday night, at 8 p.m. and the
third game is scheduled for next
Monday night, again at 8 p.m.
Dashwood was nursing a com-
fortable two -goal lead late in
the third period, when the Hen-
sall crew came up with two fast
goals at 17.13 and 17.24 to force
the overtime session.
Bud Desjardine provided the
big spark in Dashwood attack,
scoring three goals. Bill Hoff-
man and Jim Hoffman each scor-
ed one, along with Pat McKeever
and Lovie's winning goal in the
overtime.
For Hensall Bill Chipchase and
Bob Carlile both scored twice,
with single markers coming from
Ken Smale and Bill Taylor.
McKinnon all scored once. For
Monkton, brothers Bill and Warren
Smith each scored one.
Only eight minor penalties were
called in the game, with five of
them going to the visitors and
three to the locals.
Gary Geoffrey played an out-
standing game in Zurich , and
turned aside many hard drives
which were labelled for sure goals.

Bruins and Leafs
Tied in Playoffs
The Bruins tied their best -
of five series with the Leafs in the
Zurich House League last week,
when they,defeated the blue and
whites 4-2 in the fourth game.
The fifth and decideing game
will be played this Saturday morn-
ing. In an exhibition contest, the
Hawkes were defeated 7-6 by the
Canadiens, who they have elim-
inated from the playoffs.
Derek O'Brien led the leafs to
victory with two big goals, while
Pat Bedard and Barry Hess each
scored one.
Greg Love scored both goals
for the Leafs, one in the second
and another in the third. The
leafs scored once in the first
and then came up with three big'
markers in the third.
Brad Oke, with three big goals,
led the Canadiens to their vic-
tory over the Hawks. Bill Bedard
scored two, while Gerald Weido
and Ron Regier each blinked the
red light once.
Kim McKinnon scored three
times for the ,Hawks, while Larry
Smith chipped in with two and
Wayne Clarke one.

Hensall Bowlers
Visit Walkerton
Two bowling teams from Hen-
sall Legion Ladies Auxiliary par-
ticipated in a bowling tournament
at Walkerton, Wednesday March
19. The team composed of Mrs.
Clarence Reid (Captain); Mrs.
Harold Campbell, Mrs. Vic Stan,
Mrs. R. Vanstone, Mrs. Annie
I-Iorton and Mrs. Howard Smale,
captured third prize, each winning
an electric heating pad. Mrs. Vic
Stan also won the high triple of
651, and was presented with a
salad bowl set.
Mrs. Mary Taylor, 81, was
presented with a_lovely floral
arrangment being the oldest
bowler there.
Mrs. Grant McClinchey, Mrs.
William Smale, Mrs. Garnet
Allan, Mrs. Gordon Munn, Mrs.
Mary Taylor and Mrs. Hilda Smale
formed the second team, of which
M4s. McClinchey was the captain.
