1968 Accident Rate
Shows Little Change
The 1968 accident statistics
for the area were released by OPP
Cpl. C. J. Mitchell last week and
show little change from the pre-
vious year.
There were three more acc-
idents as the total was recorded
at 202, although fatalities show-
ed a decline from three to two.
Cpl Mitchell noted that the
accident totals for weekends was
down in 1968, but had taken an
increase during the first four days
of the week.
He said this was probably dtie
to the fact the local officers con-
ducted an extensive patrol system
during weekends in 1968.
Property damage in the past
year's crashes amounted to $122,
709. while the total number of
injuries was 129. Both these fig-
ures were up slightly.
An indication of the increased
patrol work of the local officers
is the fact they laid 857 charges
this year, compared with 596 in
centennial year.
However, Cpl. Mitchell not-
ed that criminal driving charges -
impaired, drunk and dangerous
driving - were down almost 30
percent.
Although he explained there
was obviously need for improve-
ment in the driving practices
of drivers in the area, he noted
the statistics for the past two
years ere better than some pre-
vious years.
In 1966, for instance, 10 per-
sons were killed in the district
covered by the local detachment
officers and there were 229 acc-
idents.

Some small children are dreadfully afraid of the dark. In their minds,
ogres live in cupboards and even the everyday toybox can suddenly
become a very ghostly thing: To a youngster afraid of the darkness, an
electric light can become a very warm and friendly spook chaser. Yet it
costs so very little to operate.
A 25 -watt, night light will banish the
goblins from your home for an entire week for
ONLY ONE PENNY.
The electricity we deliver to your house is
one of the biggest bargains in your family
budget ... and look at all the wonderful things
it does.
