He proposed two main ammendments: The reduction will amount to no more than 50 per cent of the local taxes on each eligible property; crown -owned properties, both federal and Pro- vincial, are confirmed as being eligible for tax reductions to ten- 1 ants. Mr. McKeough said the system had proved in practice to be "The best available method" of relieving the pressure of local taxation on the individual household. It provided more than $100 million last year to some two million households. He described the system as a practical short -run measure that will likely be replaced at some 1 time in the future by the inclusion i of property tax relief in a prov- incial income tax system. The same equalization factor will be used in 1969 as in 1968, he said, with certain exceptions such as municipalities which have just been reassessed. "In other words, if a munici- pality were to have the same mill rate in 1969 as it had last year, the amount of tax reduction apply- ing to an individual household will be the same. If the mill rete goes up, the amount of tax reduction will also go up." _ entrahnarnaglinannigniMMENEEMOMIMINIgg Petroleums Limited GASOLINE • DIESEL HEATING OILS Valvoline and Veedol Motor Oil and Greases "Go With Arrow" AGENT: ROBERT N.
