Dashwood Evens Series With Zurich
Kings; Hensall Leading Juveniles
The Dashwood Bears evened'
their best -of -five playoff series
with the Zurich Kings at one
game each last Thursday night,
in the Zurich Rec League, when
they came up with a decisive 9-
3 victory. In the other half of
the double-header, Hensall de-
feated the Zurich Juveniles to
take a two -game lead in their
series.
Action resumes this Thurs-
day night at the Zurich Arena,
when Hensall and the Juveniles
meet at 7 p.m. , and Dashwood
and the Zurich Kings battle it
our at 9 p.m.
DASHWOOD 9 --ZURICH 3
Jim Hayter and Stan Lovie
led the Dashwood arrack with
two goals each, while Bob Hoff-
man, Bud Desjardine, Bill Hoff-
man, Gord Vincent and Pat Mc-
Keever each scored once.
For Zurich the marksmen
were Bob Merner, Bill Wagner,
and Pete Postill.
The two teams split a pair
of first -period goals, but in the
second the Bears pumped in four
big markers while holding Kings
to a single goal. In the third
period Dashwood scored four more
while Zurich managed to come ur
with only one.

Win WOAA Title

"The Big 0" of Hensall man-
aged to out -score Blyth 4-3 in a
ten minute overtime period to
win the WOAA Category trophy.
The fifth game of the series
played in Blyth on Tuesday night
was jam packed with action as
the Blyth team were out to try
and even up the series. In the
first period, Doug Smith blinked
the red light for the first marker
of the night at 15:05. There were
many break aways, but nobody
was able to capitalize.
During the second period,
Perry Mattson on a pass from
Garry Koehler at 1:05 mark. Blyth
managed to confuse "The Big 0"
boys and Keith Howatt beat Bob
Clement for Blyth's first marker.
An assist going to Brian Millar.
With "The Big O"' leading the
Blyth boys really turned on the
oressure and at 9:01 Ron Plunkett
from Donald Carter evened the
score at the end of regulation
time.
During the ten minute over-
time "The Big 0" at 2:50 Danny
Winsor from Doug Smith, and
again at the 4:27 mark, Perry
Mattson from Jamie Caldwell,
were leading by two goals.
But Blyth was not yet ready
to throw in the sponge, and at
6:07 David Rodger got a break
away with only a defencem an to
beat, he shot and as the puck will
sometimes do, it took a crazy
little hop over John Charrette's
stick, hit his skate and beat Bob
Clement for another tally for
Blyth. The game ended with the
score 4-3 for "The Big 0," vic-
tory and a trophy to bring home.
Now, you know what all the
noise was about Tuesday night in
Hensall.
"The Big 0" now moves on
to the grand championship, in
which the winners of the B. C.D.
and E. category will play off.
On Wednesday, March 12,
Southampton will be at Hensall
to take on "The Big 0". Friday
night March 14, "The Big 0" will
be in Southampton and the third
game will be on Sunday, but
where, will not be decided upon +.
until Wednesday night.

Ken Smale led the Hensall
attack with three big goals over
(the Zurich Juveniles, while Bob
Carlile, Gary Maxwell and Bill
Taylor each scored twice. Single
markers were accounted for by
Murray Baker and Gary Kyle.
For the Juveniles Rick Schilbe
was the big gun with three goals,
while Aubrey Bedard, Doug Stade
and Paul Flaxbard each scored
one.
Both teams scored once in
the first period, but it the sec-
ond Hensall jumped into a 6-4
lead. In the third period they
pumped in five more goals, Mile
holding the Juveniles to two.
Only two penalties were
handed out in the cleanly -play-
ed game.
Hawks and Leafs
Lead in House
League Playoffs
The Hawks came through
with a 6-5 victory over the Can-
adiens and the Leafs downed the
Bruins 5-2 in House League play
at the Zurich Arena on Saturday
morning. The games were the
first in the playoffs.
For the Hawks Richard Reg -
ler and Steven Haberer scored
twice, while Kim McKinnon
and Wayne Clarke each scored
one.
Billy Bedard led the Can-
adiens with three big goals,
while Fred Mommersteeg and
Danny Meidinger both scored one
Five players, Stephen Smith,
Ronnie Smith, Robbie Finkbeiner,
Rick Bedard, and Greg Love each
scored once in the leaf's upset wir
over the highly favoured Bruins.
Derek O'Brien and Barry Hess
both scored once for the Bruins.
Zurich Flyers Oust
Blyth; Lead Finals
The Zurich Flyers, after
eliminating Blyth Merchants four
games to one, with two tied, in
the semi-final series for the WO
AA Intermediate D title, on Sun-
day afternoon drew first blood
with Monkton Wildcats when
they dumped them 10-8 in over-
time. The game was the first
of the best -of -seven series for
the championship, with the next
two games scheduled to be play-
ed in Monkton on Friday night
and Sunday afternoon.
Bob Johnston led the Zurich
onslaught Sunday afternoon, with
four big goals. Earl Wagner
chipped in with three, while Bob
Carlile scored twice and Larry
Willert once.
Carlile gave Zurich a 1-0
lead in the first period, but in the
second the Flyers went into a
temporary lapse as they allowed
Monkton to come up with five
big goals. Wagner and Johnston
each scored once for Zurich, to
leave the score 5-3 at the end of
the second.
In the third period the Flyers
came back strong, and tied the
score before two minutes had beet
played, on goals by Willert and
Johnston. Earl Wagner shot the
locals into a 6-5 lead at the 6.07
'mark, but this was short-lived as
(Monkton roared right back with
the equalizer. At 12.46 Monkton
took a one -goal lead, but with
only four minutes to play John-
ston scored again to tie the game
at 7-7, and force the overtime
session.
After Monkton took an 8-7
lead at the 1.10 mark of the
overtime, Zurich came back.

Wagner, to wrap up the first of
the series.
A total of eight penalties
were handed out in the game,
with five going to the visitors.
ZURICH 10 - BLYTH 4
In Blyth on Friday night
the Zurich Flyers waited until
the third period to go on their
big scoring spree and down the
Merchants 10-4 in the sixth
game of their best -of -seven
series. They won four, lost one
and tied two.
Bob Carlile was the big gun
for Zurich, banging in five of
their goals, while defence stal-
wart Dick Bedard came through
with three. Ken Smale and Bob
Merner each scorecj once.
The two teams split even in
the first period, to end the sess-
ion at 1-1. By the end of the
second the Flyers had taken a
4-3 lead, and then in the third
they went completely wild when
they banged in six more big
markers.
Nine minor penalties were
called in the game, with five of
them going to Blyth and four to
Zurich.
