Dashwood WI
The citizenship meeting was held
Tuesday, February 4, with Mrs.
John Rader convenor. Roll call
was -name a province and its floral
emblem". •Charts were also in
evidence. Mrs. Letta Taylor dis-
cussed the motto, "Facts on floral
emblems". Mrs. Eben Weigand and
Norma showed pictures they had
taken on their trip to the west
coast. Mrs. Emil Becker conduct-
ed a contest on Canada during the
lunch hour.
VIrs. Glen Webb, president, con-
ducted the business. Letters were
read from Sara .Chaeko, the adopted
Indian girl, thanking for her Christ-
mas gift and telling about her life
at school. Margaret Merner, Sheila
Willert and Eleanor Wolfe received
.engraved dishes from the WI for
completing 12 projects in 4-H.
Marie Andersen and Marjorie
Schenk received a cup and saucer
for competing six projects. The
leaders also received gifts for their
work in conducting the club. The
4-H girls modelled their dresses
.and showed their books.
It was decided to canvass in
March for the Red Cross. A letter
was read from the new provincial
president.
Firemen's Banquet
The aillitiax firemen's banquet
was held Wednesday, February 5,
with supper at the hotel. Harold
Schroeder. fire chief, welcomed
everyone, including guests, Mr. and
Mrs. Harry Hoffman, warden of
Huron and his wife, Mr. and Mrs.
James Hayter, reeve of Hay, Joe
Hoffman, and deputy reeve of
Stephen, Joe Dietrich. Cliff Salmon
won the door prize.
Everyone gathered at the Com-
munity Centre and Don Bender
conducted c r o k i n o l e. Winners
were Mrs. Bill Masse and Ron
Merner; low lady, Mrs. Gerald
Martene.
On behalf of the trustees and
firemen, chairman Cliff Salmon
presented Mr. and Mrs. Jim Hayter
with a gift due to Jim becoming
warden. Dancing completed the
evening.
Family Night
Family night was held for Zion
Lutheran Church, Friday, Feb-
ruary 7. The program consisted
of numbers from each organization,
namely: Sunday school Ladies' Aid,
choir, The Walther League con-
ducted opening devotions and the
LWML closing devotions.
Two films: "The Silent World"
and •one from "This Is the Life",
were shown by Bill Becker.
Group four of the Ladies' Aid
and Mrs. Leonard Schenk, con-
venor, was in •charge •of a pooled
lunch.
4H Girls
The 4-H girls' club met Satur-
day. February 8, to organize for
the club "Meat in the Menu". Club
No. 2 has 12 girls, with the leaders,
Mrs. Leonard Schenk and Margaret
Merner. "The Dashwood Meat
Grinders", was chosen for the
name. Officers elected were:
president, Doris Webb; vice-presi-
dent, Cora Van Raay; secretary,
Teresa Holubowicz; press reporter,
Sharon Rader,
The leaders discussed Canada's
food guide and general introduc-
tion to the project. A trip to
Merner's Abattoir is planned for
Tuesday, February 11.
Joseph Couckuyt
Joseph Couckuyt, 72, passed
away at St, Joseph's Hospital, on
Tuesday, February 4.
Surviving besides his wife,
Celena Seynafe, are one daughter,
Helena (Mrs. Vernon Marriott), of
Lucknow; three sons, Eugene, of
Preston; Michael, of St. Clemens;
Cyril, of Grand Bend; one sister,
Mrs. Flora Vansteenkiste, of Thed-
ford; two brothers, Cyriel, Aylmer,
and Julian, Belgium; also 19 grand-
children and seven great grand-
children.
The body rested at the T. Harry
Hoffman funeral home, where

urday, February 8.

visitors with Mr. and Mrs. Elmer
Rader and family of Stratford.
Mrs. William Haugh spent sev-
eral days with her daughter and
family, Mr. and Mrs. Elmer loader,
of Stratford.
Mrs. Melissa Geiger, of Zurich,
who is a house guest with Mr. and
Mrs. Vernon Schatz, was guest of
honor on the occasion of her birth-
day Sunday. Those present in-
cluded Mr. and Mrs. Claire Geiger,
of Zurich; Mr. and Mrs. Jack Mc-
Clinchey and Mr. and Mrs. Larry
McClinchey, of Clinton. A grand-
daughter, Mrs. Don Scafe, and
family of Ailsa Craig were after-
noon caIIers.

Mr. and Mrs, Tom Meyers were
Sunday visitors with Mr. and Mrs.
James Trevethie at Port Franks.
Mrs. Eileen Consitt is spending
a month vacation in Florida.
Paul Corriveau, son o:f Mr. and
Mrs. N. J. Corriveau, Zurich, has
accepted a position with the Huron
County Assesssment Commission
in G,oderich, and commenced his
duties on Monday of this week.
Mr. and Mrs. Tyrus Stansberry,
of Grosse Point, Mich.; Sister Pris-
cille, of Chatham; Sister Rosalie,
Stoney Point; Mr. and Mrs. Cyril
Hartman and family, of Thorndale,
and Mr, and Mrs; Fred Dueharme,
of the Bluewater Highway, were
Saturday visitors at the home of
Mrs. Theresa Hartman, Dinner
was served in honor of Mr, Du-
charme's 91st birthday on that day,
and Mrs. Dueharme's 85th birthday
on January 28.
Miss Pauline Baechler, daughter
of Mr. and Mrs. William Baechler,
RR 2, Zurich, has received word
that she has passed her grade 8
piano with honors, from the To-
ronto Conservatory of Music. She
is a student of Mrs. Harold Stade,
Zurich.
Mr. and Mrs. Larry Hartman and
family, of London, were Sunday
visitors in Zurich at the home of
Mrs. Theresa Hartman.
