Legion Auxiliary
Entertains Vets
November meeting of the Le-
gion Ladies' Auxiliary was held
Tuesday evening, in the Legion
Hall, chaired by president Mrs.
,Garnet Allan.
Members of the Auxiliary, in
conjunction with Exeter Auxil-
iary, will entertain veterans at
Westminster Hospital, London,
Wednesday, November 15. The
Christmas party for the children
of the members will •be held
Sunday, December 15.
At the December meeting
members will exchange gifts.
Nominations for the 1969 slate
of officers were held. Tickets
on the money doll draw were
handed out.
Mrs. Stan Kochan won the
mystery prize, Mrs. Hilda Smale
the guessing prize, and Mrs.
Grant McClinchey the attend-
ance prize. A social hour of bin-
go and lunch followed.

On "Act Fast"
The regular meeting of Am-
ber Rebekah Lodge was held
Wednesday evening, November
6, with Mrs. Inez McEwen pre-
siding in the absence of noble
grand Mrs Earl Campbell.
A letter was received from
Morning Star Brussels Lodge
stating they will attend the next
meeting. November 20, when
they will present the travelling
gavel to this Lodge.
It was announced that cards
have been sent to the sick and
shut-ins. Three members, Mrs.
Ray Consitt, Mrs. Lindsay Eyre,
Mrs. Elgin Thompson, were
named to visit patients at the
Queensway nursing home, Hen-
sall, this month. The annual
Christmas party for members
will be held the first Wednes-
day in December.
It was reported that the group
made $130 on "Act Fast", Sun-
day evening, November 10, on
CFPL-TV, London. Noble grand
Mrs. Earl Campbell acted out
the charade.

Bengough, grade 10 five-year
arts and science students from
South Huron District High
School from Bewail and dis-
trict, went by train from Lon-
don in a reserved coach to Ot-
tawa where they toured the
Parliament Buildings, viewed
parliament in session from the
gallery, toured the Royal Mint,
Museum of Science and Tech
nology and the city of Ottawa.
They left Thursday, November
7, at 12 noon and arrived home
at 2 a.m. Sunday. Over one
hundred students from the same
grade of arts and science took
the trip and while inOttawa
stayed at the 'Chateau Laurier
Hotel. They were accompanied
by five teachers.
Miss Mary Tomson, of Kippen,
grade 9 student at South Huron
District ,High School, under-
went surgery in Victoria Hos-
pital, London, for a back ail-
ment. Mary, daughter of Mr.
and Mrs. Bert Thomson, will
have to remain in hospital for
four weeks and four more
weeks at home to recuperate.
Charles Mickle flew home
from Bethlehem, Pennsylvania,
where he is attending univers-
ity, to spend the week -end with
his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Laird
Mickle. He arrived Friday
morning in Hensall.
Mrs. Emma Downs, London,
was a week -end guest with Mrs.
Grace Harpole and Mrs. Olive
Horton, and also attended the

an empire waist, embroidery
trimming around waistline and
long pouff sleeves. Draped
panels of matching chiffon fell
from the neckline over the
shoulderline. She wore a match-
ing headdress and carried an
arm bouquet of yellow and
bronze mums and fern with
large bows of burnt orange and
brandy color.
Bridesmaids Miss Anne Steph-
enson, London, was gowned
identical to the matron of honor
and Miss Faye Roney, RR 3,
Mitchell, and Mrs. Marjorie Ann
Bartja, RR 3, Monkton, wore
similar gowns in brandy color.
Best man was Ken Stephen-
son, Clinton, and Leroy Work-
man, Crediton; Robert Turner,
RR 1, Zurich, and Jim Consitt,
RR 1, Zurich, ushered guests.
Paul Stephenson, Clinton, was
ringbearer.
A wedding reception was held
in the Brodhagen Community
Centre.
For receiving guests t h e
bride's mother chose a turquoise
sheath chiffon dress with a yoke
of hand -cut chantilly lace, three
quarter lace sleeves and chiffon
panels falling from the back
yoke, a black velvet hat trim-
med with silver, black patent
accessories and a corsage of
pink Sweetheart roses.
The groom's mother assisted
in a Java green peau de sole
street -length dress fashioned
with a scoop neckline and rib-
bon used on the elbow -length
sleeves and skirt in a scroll
effect and a scalloped hemline.
Matching hat and shoes compli-
mented her costume and she
wore a corsage of autumn -color-
ed mums and a fur stole.
For a honeymoon through the
United States, the Western
Provinces and Northern Ontario
the bride changed to a green
and white gabardine coat and
dress ensemble with a matching
bow in her hair, black patent
accessories and a corrsage of
yellow 'Sweetheart roses.
The couple will reside at RR
1, Varna.
Mitchel anniversary Saturday.
Mrs. Pearl Shaddick is spend-
ing a week with friends in
Stratford.
Miss Ann Mickle and Robert,
UWO, London, spent Saturday
with their parents, Mr, and Mrs.
Laird Mickle.

Hear Reports From
Three Committees
Thirty-one ladies attended the
meeting of Hensall United
Church Women, Unit 4, in Fel-
lowship Hall Thursday after-
noon, November 7. Mrs. James
McAllister, president, presided
and opened with invocation.
The devotional period was
presented by Mrs. N. E. Cook,
who read from Thessalonians,
chapter 5, and gave thoughts on
"The future is an adventure in
faith". Miss Amy Lammie led
in prayer.
Mrs. R. M. Peck presented the
study, "The high cost of decis-
ions". Mrs. Hugh McMurtrie
gave a reading in keeping with
Remembrance Day. Mrs. T. J.
Sherritt gave a detailed report
of the treasury.
Mrs. James McAllister report-
ed for the bale which was
packed Tuesday, which included
11 cartons, nine for Toronto
(Overseas), and two for the Sal-
vation Army, London.
Visitation reported 90 calls.
This unit is responsible for
church flowers and nursery for
this month.
The mission festival is sched-
uled for Crediton United Church
on November 13, 14, 15, at 7:30
p.m., each evening, and all are
urged to attend. Some arrange-
ments were made for ;Christmas
cheer for patients at -the On-
tario Hospital, Goderich.
Nominating committee were
appointed and are Mrs. J. Mc-
Allister, Mrs. N. E. Cook, Mrs.
R. M. Peck. A cup of tea was
served.

News of Varna and District
The United Church Women
held their November meeting in
the church last Thursday eve-
ning with 23 members present.
The president, Mrs. Charles
Reid opened the meeting with
prayers. The devotional period
was conducted by Mrs. William
Dowson, assisted by Mrs. Bev
Hill.
The theme was "Erosion",
erosion in church life, erosion
in countries, erosion in families,
etc. Mrs. Bev Hill read an in-
teresting article taken from the
Free Press about Rev. and Mrs,
Walton Tonge, of Hong Kong,
who are presently living in Lon-
don and have been speaking at
various places in Western On-
tario on conditions in China.
The president conducted the
business period. A donation
was made to the Children's Aid
Society. Twenty-one calls were
made during the month to sick
and shut-ins. At the close of
the meeting group three served
lunch.
Remembrance Service
Remembrance Day service
was held Sunday morning in
the United Church with the pas-
tor, Rev. M. Morrison, in charge.

Married 40 Years
Mr. and Mrs. Stanley Mitchell,
RR 1, Hensall, observed their
40th wedding anniversary on
Sunday, November 10, and their
daughter and son-in-law, Mr, and
Mrs: Elgin Hendrick, RR 1,
Dashwood, arranged a party in
their honor at their hone on
Saturday evening, attended by
relatives.
A social hour was spent in
playing progressive euchre fol-
lowed by a smorgasbord supper.
The celebrants were presented
with many beautiful gifts, in-
cluding a purse of money.
Their marriage was solem-
nized in Hensall United Church
manse 40 years ago, by the late
Rev. Arthur Sinclair, and fol-
lowing their marriage they lived
on the Mitchell homestead farm
east of Hensall, where they have
resided ever since.
They have one daughter, Mrs.
Elgin Hendrick, and two grand-
children.
