Thorndale ended the sched- ule on top of the deck with Dashwood placing second. St. Marys came up with a third place finish followed by the Zurich Kings. Mitchell were close behind the Kings and Hensall ended up in the ,cellar. Wins First Hensall Merchants defeated the Zurich Kings 6 to 3 last Tuesday night in the first game of a double round robin playoff baseball game Hensall took •a two -run lead after the second inning when the Merchants rallied for three runs. Each scored two runs in the first. Zurich managed to get only one run back in the third and HensaIi took a three -run lead in the sixth on Lavery's double. Earl Wagner crocked out a home run in the third, while Phil Overholt doubled in the first. Steve Kyle, for Hensall, hit a two -run homer in the sec- ond. The Kings threatened in the eighth with three men on base but the Merchants pulled out, allowing no runs. Kings Trounce Tigers Zurich allowed Dashwood only one run in the seventh inning to win their first base- ball game in the Huron -Perth baseball playoff game last Wed- nesday night. The Kings went on the score sheet in the third inning with one run and then collected three snore in the fifth. In the seventh the Tigers managed to collect one run but Zurich col- lected five more in the sixth, seventh and eighth, Bob Johnston and Earl Wag- ner were the big guns, each collecting a home run. Don O'Brien hit a double while sin- gles went to Dick Bedard and Doug O'Brien. Dick Bedard allowed the Tigers only one hit, while los- ing pitcher Bob Webb allowed the Kings nine. Kings Blank Hensall The Zurich Kings took their second win last Friday night when they defeated the Hensall Merchants 7-0 in a Huron -Perth playoff ganie. Doug O'Brien started Zurich off on the right foot with a single to give them a onerun lead in the first, and Earl Wag- ner also hit a double in the second to 'collect two more. The Kings were threatened in the first as Hensall loaded the bases but were able to get out of the trouble allowing no runs. The Kings were then score- less until the fifth and seventh inning when they .collected one run in each on Johnston's single and Don O'Brien's and Gerald Shantz's doubles. Zurich rap- ped things up in the eighth with two runs to give them a 7 to 0 score. Zurich ____ 120 010 12-7 8 0 Hensall _ 000 000 00-0 4 5 Don O'Brien and Ron •Corri- reau; Kyle and Horton, Kings Take Lead The Zurich Kings took a one - game lead in a Huron -Perth round robin playoff baseball game last Monday night by de- feating the Dashwood Tigers 10-5. The Kings took an early five- run lead in the first inning on two triples by Doug O'Brien and George Haggitt. Dick Bedard and Ron Corriveau knocked out doubles to end the Kings' first inning rally. Dashwood went on the score sheet with two runs in the third with Jim Hayter, Bob Hoffman and Dave Ratz each getting singles. Dick Bedard, the Kings' hurl- er, hit a double to give Zurich a run in the fifth, Dick played a splendid game, allowing only four hits, on the mound and also had three for four at bat. Whitey Denomme, for the Tigers, socked in a run for Dash- wood in the sixth and also hit a double in the seventh to give Dashwood their fifth run. Zurich collected three in the seventh and one in the 'eighth to wind up the game on Earl Wagner's, George Haggit's and Phil Overholt's singles. Teenagers and .Gingerich`s Continue To Le 1 d Group in Rec League Play (By Gerry Rader) The battle for first place in the Zurich Rec league softball after two weeks is getting closer to the end of the schedule with only three games left before playoffs. Fans who have been follow- ing the Rec games have found great interest in the league and say that the playoffs will be very interesting, An all-star game has been scheduled for August 25 with the first and second teams se- lected by the members of the Rec league. For this All-star game it is hoped that Pete James, CFPL sports director, Don Beattie, London TV Cables third baseman, and professional hockey player Larry Jeffrey will be on hand to umpire the game. The win was Gerry Rader's first on the mound for the Teens, while losing pitcher ova$ Dave Durand for the Bluewater. Rich Turkheim and Doug Coxon pounded out a couple of triples for the Teens. Mike Jeffery, Dave Durand and Bernie Denomme were the Bluewater marksmen. The Teens sharp infield al- lowed no errors and a splendid performance by Rich Schilbe on shortstop and Pete Regier on second helped the Teens to their seventh victory. Rec league play. The Barbers took an early one -run Iead in the first inning on Gord Lavery and Jim Be- dard's single. Gingerichs wast, ed no time in tieing it up in the second inning on Glenn Gascho's double, scoring Wayne Horner. In the fifth inning Carl Finkbeiner started things off for the Barbers with •a tri- ple and was sent home on Bob Merner's double. Gary Geof- fery and Jirn Bedard singled and were brought •home on Eric Smale's sock to right field. The Barbers led until the sixth when Iton Oesch homered and Lloyd Hostell, Gary Gingerich, Rich Shantz and Sohn ,Gaseho singled to give Gingerich •command of the game. Barbers Back in Swing After four consecutive loses the Barbers finally came through with a win against Bluewater, by an 8 to 7 score. Paul Corriveau, Jim Bedard and Bob Merner rallied for the Barbers in the fourth to give them four runs on their doubles, The Bluewater collected seven runs in the first an triples by Dave Durand, Mike Jeffery and Bernie Denomme. Doubles went to Leo Ducharme and Rick Jeffery. Bob Merner, on the mound, allowed only four hits after the firrst. At the end of the fifth the score was 7-6 in favor of the Bluewater, as Carl Finkbeiner doubled and Merner singled. Shane McKinnon .hit a double to bring in the runners and give the Barbers the win. Barbers 001 412-8 12 4 Bluewater 700 000-7 9 6 Gingerichs Squeak 6th Straight Last Thursday night Ginger- ichs defeated the Teenagers 13- 12 to stretch their undefeated streak to six games. In. the first inning the Teens rallied for three runs on hits by Pete Re- gier, Ray Finkbeiner and Gerry Rader. The big hitters for Gingerichs were Lloyd Hostell with two triples and Wayne Horner with two singles. Gingerich led 13-6 at the ninth inning when the Teens threatened with six runs but were unable to bring home the tying run, Ray Finkbeiner hit a triple with the bases loaded. Barbers Blank Bluewater In Rec league play, last Thurs- day the Barber Boys put the wood to the Bluewater by de- feating the lake team 28 to6. The win gave the ,Barbers a tie for third place with the Blue - water boys. Jim Bedard, Bob Merner and Eric Smale crocked out triples, while doubles went to Gary Geoffrey, Paul Corriveau and Gord Lavery for the Barbers. The Bluewater marksmen were Rick Jeffery, Dave Dur- and and Bernie Denomme each with two hits. The commission was informed of the necessary repairs to the GMC ladder truck and moved that the truck be repaired as per the estimate of T. Thuss.
