McKinnon Drives
In Whining Run
Against Mitchells
(By Gerry Rader)
Kevin McKinnon helped bring
the Zurich Kings out of their
four -game losing streak by
cracking out a single to bring
in the winning run against the
Mitchell BPs last Saturday
night, in a afuron Perbh base-
ball game. The Kings squeaked
out a seven -to -six victory with
four of their runs coming in
the first five innings. Singles
went to Dave Stark, Earl Wag-
ner, Don O'Brien, George Hag-
gitt and Phil Overholt.
Mitchell threatened in the
fifth with three runs and then
in the sixth tied the game. The
BPs lost no time in going ahead
in the seventh on a double, to
send in a run, then in the eighth
got their final run which they
figured was the clincher.
With a six -to -four score at
the bottom of the last it looked
pretty :hopeless for the Kings,
but they never gave up. Wag-
ner lead things off with a walk
to first but was thrown out at
second on Don O'Brien's single.
Phil Overholt also collected a
single to push O'Brien to third.
Overholt made a steal to sec-
ond and O'Brien scored. Over-
holt made a steal to third safe-
ly on the throw to home plate
in which Mitchell failed to stop
O'Brien. George Haggitt walk-
ed and Overholt scored on a
balk by the Mitchell pitcher to
tie the score six all. Ron Cor-
riveau made the second out as
he swung down. Stark was hit
by a wild pitch and was fol-
lowed by an intentional walk
given to Doug O'Brien, pinch-
hitting for Stade, to load the
bases. Kevin McKinnon came
to the plate to drive a leftfield
single to bring in the winning
run.
