In t h e regular schedule
throughout the year Dashwood

Zurich had five wins, three

The Dashwood fans have
really been supporting their
team and the Zurich Kings are
hoping for some support from
the fans in Zurich
Around the end of the reg
ular season some fans from
Dashwood brought chalk along
to one of the games, and used
the blackboard in the entrance
of the arena to write on:
"Where are the Zurich fans,
Dashwood is here", which
caused great laughter among
the teams.
I'm sure the great rivalry be-
tween the Zurich and Dashwood
fans would again be back if
the Zurich fans were out. The
two teams seem to be fairly
even, which will produce good
hockey back in the Zurich
Arena, as there once was years
ago.

Zurich Midgets Win WOAA Title; Play
 George In OMHA Final Saturday
On Friday night the high -fly-
ing Zurich Midgets won the
Western 'Ontario Athletic Asso-
ciation championship, defeating
Ripley in a sudden -death play-
off game played in Mildmay.
The superb goaltending of Dave
Siebert led the Zurich crew to
a 5-2 victory in the eighth game
of the series. Both teams had
previously won three and tied
one.
As usually the Zurich Midgets
got off to a slow start allowing
Ripley to score two goals and
keep that lead, until in the last
two minutes of the first period
the gap was shortened by one
goal, as John McKinley deflect-
ed a stray backhand from Shane
McKinnon.
The second period was score-
less as it turned into a de-
fenceman's hockey game, with
both teams breaking fast but
proved to be ineffective in try-
ing to penetrate through the
solid defence.
Finally, in the last 12 min-
utes of the third period after
the locals sang their theme
song, the Zurich spirits were
lifted when Shane McKinnon
tied it up with a backhand after
receiving a pass from John Mc-
Kinley. Two minutes later Mc-
Kinnon broke through the de-
fence and made his play which
Zurich Flyers Lose S venal Ca , e
Series to St. Clements at Milverton
The Zurich Flyers faded out
of the playoff picture in WOAA
intermediate hockey last Friday
night, when they lost the
seventh and deciding game to
the St. Clements Saints, by a
score of 5-2. St. Clements had
taken a three -game lead in the
series, only to have Zurich roar
back with three straight vic-
tories
iatories to force the seventh game.
Close to 300 loyal fans ac-
companied the Flyers to Mil-
verton for the big .game, but
the locals just failed to come
up with the big effort they had
shown in the three previous
games. Had it not been for the
sensational goal tending of
Rick Jeffrey, the score might
have been much worse than it
was.
The SL Clements crew now
meet Crediton in the final round
for the WOAA title, and the
first game, which ended in a
10-3 victory for Crediton, was
played in Exeter last Sunday
night.
Bab Johnston shot Zurich in-
to an early lead in the Friday
night game, when he slapped
in a pass from line -mates Craig
Chapman and Earl Wagner at
the 4:35 mark of the first peri-
od. Midway through the period
the Saints counted on a goal
that most fans agreed never
Ken Parker each fired in singles
for Hensall in the first period,
as Dashwood were only able to
get one by Hensall's Gary Kyle.
Hensall scored three more in
the third and Dashwood picked
up their second goal, as the
second stanza remained score-
less. Hensall's third period
goals were scored by Harry
Moir, collecting two, and Bob
Carlile geting a single. Dash -
wood's sharpshooter was Bob
Hayter, scoring a lone goal.
There were nine penalties in
the game with Dashwood get-
ting five of the nine. Referees
were George Sweeney, Jim ,Be-
dard and Doug O'Brien.

entered the net. One referee
said the puck was in the net,
while the other claimed it hit
the top bar of the net, however
the home team was awarded the
goal. Many fans felt this was
the turning point in the game
which brought the downfall of
the Flyers. With less than five
minutes left in the first, Hins-
berger scored his first of two
goals to give the Saints a 2-1
lead.
Neither team managed to
score in the second period, as
players checked at a feverish
pace throughout. The roof fell
in for the Flyers in the third,
li. o w e v e r, when. the Saints
banged in three goals within
seven minutes. With less than
two minutes left to play, Earl
Wagner slapped in a pass from
Chapman and Johnston to end
the scoring in the game.
A total of seven penalties
were handed out in the game,
with five going to St. Clements
and two to Zurich. Near the
end of the game Rick Jeffrey
was forced to leave with a
pulled muscle in his leg, and
he was replaced for the last
few minutes by Percy Bedard.
While some of the Zurich
fans were disappointed at the
loss to St. Clements in the
seventh game, they should not
be too down -hearted consider-
ing the terrific comeback ,the
Flyers made this season. The
players have expressed their
sincere 'appreciation to the many
fans who have supported them
this season, and they hope to
be back next year with a better
team than ever.
put Zurich ahead 3-2,
The pressure was on and the
action was hot when James
Ramer, one of our sleek de-
fencemen, made a rush up the
ice and the rebound from his
shot was picked up by John
McKinley, who had little trou-
ble putting it into the net, giv-
ing Zurich an insurance goal.
With seconds remaining Richard
Schilbe popped in an extra in-
surance goal, being assisted by
John Corriveau and Ron Des-
jardine.
After the bell sounded the
whole Zurich team swarmed af-
ter Dave Siebert, who was
mauled by his joyous team-
mates. Also the loyal Zurich
fans were on the ice, congratu-
lating the only championship
team in the village. They
shook hands with the Ripley
crew, who gave the locals words
of encouragement on the next
series and showed a fine ex-
ample of sportsmanship.
Mrs. J. Liesemer presented
the trophy to the newly appoint-
