ment had attempted to hide the
facts about the Expo deficit. "I
think the people of Canada
should know that the govern-
ment must face the bills for
medicare and Expo," McKinley
argued. "The Expo deficit is
estimated to be between $100
million and $200 million . The
minister stated that these fig.
ures were not included in the
last budget. The other day in
the house the minister said that
it - has been looked after. I
suspect that the only way it
could be looked after would be
by having a larger deficit for
the people to pay."
"It appears that the govern-
ment finances are pathetic,"
McKinley stated. "Public con-
fidence in this government has
evaporated. The government
has allowed productivity to dial
minish."
As a final verbal expression
of distaste, Mr. McKinley con-
cluded that the government
"cannot keep its feet on the
ground or its eyes on the na-
tional •economy'.
