Huron -Perth Tornado Fund Complete;
$64,1 73.82 To Be Divided Up pSoon
Within the next few days
members of the Huron -Perth
Tornado fund committee Will
sit down and decide how to
vide $04,173.82 among victims
of the tornado.
Of the total amount one half
was raised through .the gifts of
area residents, organizations
and businesses. The balance of
$32,086.91 represents agrant
which now has come forward
from the provincial government
and is the fulfilment •of assur-
ances given at the time of the
disaster.
The tornado struck on April
17 last year and in a matter
of minutes cut a swath of de-
struction across Huron and
Perth municipalities. Brunt of
the damage was to properties
in Tuckersmith, Hibbert, Dub-
lin and Logan and estimated at
the time to total almost a mil-
lion dollars. A Dublin area
farmer, James Donnelly, lost his
life when the barn he was work-
ing in collapsed on him at the
height of the storm.
Advice of the payment of the
grant was received last Tuesday
by Earl Dick, chairman of the
tornado fund committee.
While a basic formula for
distribution of the money has
been discussed no firm deci-
sion has been reached, the com-
mittee secretary, Mrs. Roy Bur-

A clergyman may sue Gordon
Sinclair! It started when Rev.
Hugh McKervill, of Port Hope,
talked about the Canadian flag
being like a beer can label.
Sinclair is all -Canadian and
took exception both on the air
and in a private letter to Mr.
McKervill. He said anyone who
would 'downgrade • the Canadian
flag would consume his own
urine,
Thus far, Sinclair has received
.three bottles of urine in the
mail. One was signed by Mr.
McKervill, but he would neither
deny nor confirm that he had
sent a bottle of urine to Sin-
clair.
The minister said .he was pur-
suing a line of action through
legal channels open to him.
During one of his newscasts
on CFRB, Sinclair mentioned
that the note was signed by
Mr. Kervill, and suggested that
he was in need of a psychia-
trist. He also doubted that Port
Hope needed Mr. McKervill, and
said analysis of the sample in
the bottle indicated the sender
had kidney and postrate trou-
ble.
Mr. McKervill had addressed
a Port Hope Brotherhood Week
dinner and was reported to
have said. Canadians permitted
the maple leaf flag to be foist-
ed upon them at a time when
the world needs no more na-
tional flags. The flag was said
to have been referred to as
"that beer can label".
If the minister doesn't like
the Canadian flag or this coun-
try, then he should leave.
Some ministers spend all
their time talking about beer,
politics and bingo. The Bible
is their business. Apparently
McKervill should be reminded
of this fact.
You're wrong McKervill! You
need a doctor for either your
kidneys or your head, or both.

chill, Dublin, said since until
now it was not known the
amount that would be available
for distribution. Distribution
procedure and other details in
connection with the assistance
payments will bediscussed at
a meeting expected to be held
sometime next week. About 50
area property owners were in-
volved in the damage,
Lloyd Humphrey, manager of
the Dublin branch of the Bank
of Commerce, who has been
treasurer of the fund, recently
was moved to the Palmerston
branch of the bank. However,
it was suggested that he would
continue to act as treasurer un-
til the •distribtuion was com-
pleted.
Many factors will enter into
any decisions made concerning
the distribution, In some cases
there is no intention of replac-
ing buildings. In other cases
buildings damaged were al-
ready in poor repair and the
storm served only to speed up
the deterioration.
The day following the torna-
do •the extent of the damage
was drawn to the attention of
the legislature by Huron MPP
Charles MacNaughton and Hur-
on -Bruce 141PP Murray Graunt.
Minister of agriculture and
food, William A Stewart, after
expressing sympathy to those
who suffered damage, said the
province would match dollar
for dollar every dollar raised
locally for the purpose of re-
habilitating the damaged prop-
erties. He assured the house
that the resources of the de-
partment would be at the dis-
posal of those who were in the
path of the tornado.
Canada Minister of Agricul-
ture J. J. Greene was in Britian
at the time but federal govern-
ment spokesmen after express-
ing sympathy to those who suf-
fered loss, said every consider-
ation would be given any re-
quest from Ontario for assis-
tance. Participation of the fed-
eral government could only be
as a result of the province ,in
its request for assistance indic-
ting that the extent of the dam-
age was such that it was be-
yond the capacity of the prov-
ince to handle and this aspect
of assistance was not pursued
by the province.
