BLUE WATER
REST HOME NEWS
and VIEWS
By
€ Lance J. Reed, Superintendent
Last Sunday afternoon we
celebrated the first anniversary
of the Blue Water Rest Home.
It was very gratifying to those
who planned the event to have
such a large number of inter-
ested people in attendance.
There were approximately 250
adults and children gathered to
listen to the musical program
planned and to enjoy the light
refreshments served by the
ladies of the Blue Water Rest
Heine Ladies' Auxiliary. It is
hopped that all in attendance
thoroughly enjoyed their visit.
We wish to thank the follow-
ing people for taking part in
the program and making our
first anniversary such a success-
ful and enjoyable one: the
pipers, Terry and John Siddall
of the Forest Pipe Band; Mrs,
Audrey Haberer as accompan-
ist for the group of 10 girls
from the Zurich area who sang
several numbers; Miss Elaine
Westlake, soloist; the Lakeview
Quartet, and their accompanist,
Miss Pearl Ann Erb; Mrs. Rob-
ert Hoffman and Harry Hoff-
man, accompanied by Mrs. Ken
McCrae, for the duets rendered;
the six young ladies who sang,
accompanied by Miss Yvonne
Gingerich; Leroy Bryan who
played the marimba, accompan-
ied on the piano by Mrs. Elwin
Bryan: Mrs. Becky Bender for
her accordion selections, and
little Misses Margaret Suther-
land and Gillian Mills who

A 'thank you' is also extend-

Detroit, for her donation of
items to the Horne, and to Don-
ald Hendrick for the quantity
of fresh eggs.
Last Sunday morning, a num-
her of our residents attended
the 10 a,m. church service in
the EUB Church. In the future,
we plan to arrange transporta-
tion so that all residents who
express a desire to do so, may
attend the various churches in
the village from time to time,
in a body, and join the resi-
dents of Zurich and the sur-
rounding district in their Sun-
day morning worship.
Deepest sympathy is extend-
ed to W. J. Kent and family,
of Komoka, in the death of his
mother, Mrs. Isabella Kent, at
the Home recently.

In the House of Commons the
other day Judy LaMarsh, secre-
tary of state, said that her criti-
cism of CBC management had
done some good. Some mem-
bers of management had been
awakened, "and that is helpful,
very helphful".
Discussing the new broad-
casting bill Miss LaMarsh made
several points.
She said she was not wedded
to the name, Canadian Radio
Commission, as a title for the
n e w broadcasting regulatory
body proposed in the bill.
She thought the cabinet
might agree if the commit-
tee decided to do away with
the 48-hour ban on political ad-
vertisements on TV and radio
prior to election day,
She stood firm on the pro-
posed $100,000 fine for private
broadcasters found guilty of
breaches of the new Act. It
was an indication of the gov-
ernment's determination to wipe
out any such offences.
Miss LaMarsh, said federal
government views on educa-
tional television probably will
be placed before the committee
soon. They would be the start-
ing point for a long committee
study.
The secretary of state also
revealed that she had been in-
strumental in having the CBC
cancel plans to bring Alfred
von Thadden to Canada for a
program.
