She added that in this period and in the future THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 9, PO Saturday Is Registration Day For All. Minor Hockey Players at Zurich Arena Minor hockey registration in Zurich takes place this Satur- day morning, from the hour 10 a.m. to 12 a.m., for all boys in the area wishing to play under the Zurich Minor Athletic Asso- ciation banner. Any boys be- tween the ages: of 6 and 18 years are eligible, and registra- tion will take place at the arena, ' This yehr, for the first time, there will be a registration fee charged to take care of ice time needed for the boys. In previous years, due to the un- certainty of ice conditions a complete program could not be planned. Accordingly, only the best players could be given the opportunity of playing and then in only WOAA inter -town com- petition, Under this system the boys were charged 25 cents every time they practiced, to cover ice rentals. Under the n e w program EVERY BOY who registers with the Zurich Minor Athletic Asso- ciation will be guaranteed his regular turn on the ice, regard- less of his ability. Those who are not good enough to make one of the regular teams for inter -town competition will be playing every Saturday morn- ing in a house league. Due to increased ice rental rates and the lack of funds to pay for. it, the Zurich Minor Athletic Association has no al- ternative but to require a reg- istration fee from those deriv- ing the benefit from the minor hockey program — the boys themselves. Most other areas have been operating under this system for some time, and find it works out quite satisfactory for all those involved. The rate structure is as fol- Hensall Council (Continued from page 1) and the two items that council were concerned with were let- ters from the Queensway nurs- I ing home and Ed Fink. Council decided to inquire into the problem that the nursing home is having with regards to en- larging. Mr. Fink !had asked about having approval to build an eight to ten unit apartment building west of the arena, and council had no objection pro- vided it met with their build- ing by-law. Building permits were passed for Mrs. G. O'Dell, for a garage, and George Beer, for a barn storage. Nomination 'in Hensall will be on Friday, November 24, be- tween the hours of seven and eight' p.m., and should an elec- tion be necessary it will be held on Monday, December 4. Accounts totalling the sum of $2,425.64 were presented and passed for payment. The clerk is to prepare a by- law in regards to council re- muneration as follows: reeve, $250 plus $150 expenses; -coun- cillors, $200 plus $100 expenses. This is to be effective for the year 1967. we all have to face things such as that. Mrs. Harry Caldwell gave the study telling many items of in- terest on the religious groups of recent times. The fall bale was packed on Tuesday, No- vember 7. Mrs. McAllister reported on the regional meeting held at Greenway. Mrs. Harry Horton. read a Remembrance Day poem and conducted a contest. A social time was enjoyed when Mrs. R. For those living outside the municipality the rate will be $6.00 for the first boy in a family, $3.00 for each additional boy, to a maximum of $15 for any one family. Of this amount, one dollar is used to pay in- surance coverage for every boy registered under the Zurich MAA, and the balance is to pay for ice time. There will be no extra charge of any kind made throughout the season, such as the 25 cents per night rate used last year. The MAA realized that the rate differential between Zur- ich residents and those outside the municipality will be subject to some controversy. However, as is the case in most other comparable municipalities, resi- dents of the village are already contributing through taxation to provide the facilities, and it is only fair that those not doing so should pay a proportionately higher fee. All the adults involved in the minor hockey program—coach- es, managers, referees, drivers, etc., contribute their services, time and gasoline free of charge as their personal contribution to the welfare of the youth of the community. Accordingly, parents should do their part in assisting with the minor hoc- key program by seeing that all interested boys are given an opportunity of participating. All boys are asked to bring their registration fee with them when they register on Saturday morning. This year the Zurich MAA hopes to, have teams entered in Mites, Squirts, PeeWees, Ban- tam, Midget and Juvenile com- petition with other towns in the area. All boys who do not make one of these teams will be playing in a house league every Saturday morning, at the local arena. Activity will get under way just as soon as the ice is available in the arena, probably in a couple of more weeks. All boys will receive from 20 to 25 weeks of ice time with hockey. At the sante time the MAA needs volunteers to assist with such jobs as coaching, manag- ing and refereeing.. Any per- sons who are interested in help- ing along with the hockey pro- gram should offer their services as soon as possible. 1111111011M® MINOR HOCKEY REGISTRATION All boys wishing to play hockey this season under the Zurich Minor Athletic Association must register at the ZURICH ARENA BETWEEN THE HOURS OF 10 A.M.
