Reed, Superintendent A 'thank you' is extended to the following for their kindness to the Home: Mrs. Herb Beier - ling for a gift of pumpkins and beets, Mrs. Ted Steinbach for a bushel of apples, Mrs. Milton McAdams for two bushels of apples and a giant pumpkin. g :k * Sincere thank you is extended to the boys and girls who visited the Home on Hallowe'en night. Over 35 residents gathered in the front sitting room to view 58 costumed visitors, One of the residents saw that each visitors received a bag of potato chips and an apple from the Home. At the same time, some residents had their own treats for the visitors. We trust they enjoyed their treats as much as our residents enjoyed seeing the great variety of costumes worn by those who came. May- be next year more boys and girls will visit the Home on Hallowe'en night. On• Thursday evening, Octo- ber 26, the residents and staff had their own costumed Hal- lowe'en party. All residents came in costume and what a great variety there was. Most of the staff came 'costumed as well. A number of games were played and prizes were given to the winners or winning team. Prior to the games, all the lights were turned out and I performed an operation on one of our staff. My various find- ings in the operation were passed around so that all could share in these "new found treasures". After all had view- ed the various and numerous findings, the patient was put back together, the light put on and believe it or not, not one resident missing from their chair. I hope that no reader will call on me for an emerg- ency operation and above all, Dr. Wallace need not worry of my setting up a practice. After all enjoyed a delicious lunch, the feature being a spe- cial Hallowe'en cake baked and decorated by our cook. to hear from you. Our Home is full now and the residents do enjoy entertainment. When groups 'outside the Horne come, it lets our residents know out- siders are thinking of them. Should you wish suggestions. I would be happy to offer some. As I mentioned previously, the winter months are fast ap- proaching which of course means Christmas is not far around the corner. For the past four years, I have been in close contact with Santa Claus and if you would like hien to visit your group or house, please let me know. Santa Claus never charges, and he has already told me he would be pleased to visit again in this area. I know he enjoyed the visits he made around here last year, * * * Our "want department" is out again and I ar sure you will find this the most peculiar "want" yet. I would like to get about 12 pairs of men's long underwear, regardless of con- dition. These are to be dyed and used for a project here, If you would care to donate yours, please leave at the usual pick-up places. * * * Sunday. November 19, has been set aside as the day to celebrate the first anniversary of the Home. An hour long musical program has been ar- ranged from local talent. The residents, their relatives, friends and all friends of the Home are invited to attend the pro- gram starting at 2:15 p.m. All those in attendance will be able to sit at tables, and during the program be served tea, coffee and a treat by the members of the Ladies' Auxiliary. Why not mark your calendar now and plan to attend? There will be no admission charge. In the column next week, I will be' mentioning the participants in the program. Also mark your calendar for the tea -bake sale —sale of articles as planned by the Ladies' Auxiliary for Satur- day, November 25, at the Home. The Auxiliary will be publish- ing detailed information in the paper in the weeks to come. We are happy to welcome the following residents to the Home and trust they will enjoy their stay with us: Mrs. Myrtle Stutt, of Clinon, and Mrs. Olivia Hodgins, of Exeter. * * * The winter months are fast approaching and the days for residents seem to become long- er. onger. If there is any group or individual persons who would consider bringing a program of entertainment in some time for our residents, I would be Happy SUPERTEST PETROLEUM LTD. Eckel Bial 236.4611 --- Zurich twastreasonomammanweinewainemna I am very happy to report that since September, the Sis- ters and students •of St. Boni- face Roman Catholic School have been visiting the residents regularly as they did last spring. The residents watch each school day for the yellow bus to stop and watch their visitors come in the drive. The interest of these visitors is greatly appre- ciated and I hope they will keep up the good work for a long time to come. a 11 69 _ * XV The Canadian Association of Broadcaster sent Secretary of State July l:,aMarsh a brief pro- posing more than 20 changes in the new Broadcasting Act. The Act seeks to establish the priority of the CBC over private broadcasters by saying that when a conflict arises be- tween the two, .the interests of the national service must pre- vail. The association suggests that the section should be reworded to provide that in a conflict the public interest should be para- mount. The Act would give the radio commission power to order scheduling of certain types of programs. The CAB protests that this would give the com- mission power to impose on the public its own choice of pro- grams and would lead to ex- cessive regulation and control. The Act would give the com- mission power to revoke or sus- pend licences issued to private broadcasters, but not to the CBC. The CAIS suggests that this is discrimination and pro- poses that the CBC should be on the same footing as private stations. Last week Miss LaMarsh ap- peared on a TV show and ad- mitted the CBC had rotten management. * R The World Series Sunday game took top position in the latest Nielsen rating, with the Saturday game in second spot. CBS Thursday Night Movies was third, with Andy Griffith fourth, and CBS Friday Night Movies in fifth position. ABC Sunday Night Movies was tied for sixth position with Gomer Pyle. The Lucy Show was eighth, with Bonanza ninth. 41, Bob's dy '_hop A Complete Service On BODY SHOP REPAIRS—REFINISHING TOWING SERVICE 1 FREE ESTIMATES Bob Forrester, Proprietor Dial 236-4959 (At Rear of Huron Motor Products) zas::ga°y`d • • a . • • r4'a 441, SHUR-GAIN Feedlot Starter Now you can get cattle on full feed of corn silage or grain in 16 days or less with New SHUR-GAIN 13% Feedlot Starter for Cattle.
