S7to44,b Regional Convention of Huron U CW Held at IvIoncrief United Church The sixth regional convention of the centre section of the Huron Presbyterial was held tin Moncrief United Church. The president, Mrs. Gordon McKen- zie, was in charge of the meet- ing. The theme for the meet- ing was "Centennial Thanks- giving". The worship service was con- duoted by Mrs, William Little and Mrs. Jim Axttnan, of Win- throp UCW. Mrs, McKenzie read a letter from the presby- terial president, Mrs. Margaret Michie, sending greetings to all in this Centennial year. One change in the new year will be the amalgamation of I-Iuron and Perth presbyteries our challenge," Rev, D. Docken spoke a few words and offered the noon grace. A delicious meal was served by the Moncrief ladies, The afternoon session .con- vened at 1:15. A skit, ,`This land was made for you and ire," with Mrs. Jack Bosman and Miss Tennie Dennis being narrators, with other members of the UCW taking part in sing- ing "This Land Is My Land". A sing -song using hymns 252, 501 and 446 was enjoyed. Mrs. Anne Follis, supervisor of health in. Huron County, spoke on the needs of the. aged people in Huron County. The London conference branch president, Mrs. Cruick- shank, also was present and spoke of the women's work. Mrs. George E. Potter, of Clin- ton, reported for supply work. Mrs. Walter Bewley, litera- ture secretary, reviewed the books and the new study packet on Japan. Mrs. S. E. Lewis, treasurer, reported givings of $23,104.36 in at the end of the third quar- ter, the allocation being $3L400. A hymn, "Prideful Dominion of the West", was sung. Mrs. Gilbert Beecroft gave a very inspiring and informative talk on "What in the world is the church doing?" The offer- ing was received and dedicated by Mrs. N. Taylor, Varna UCW. Rev. W. 0. Mathers, of Blyth, addressed the ladies on the theme, "Co-operation in Chris- tian Education". He said, "our needs are not all financial, it is people. Where are we to find people who will give of their time and talent, to help develop thinking and mold lives into Christian living. This is A duet by Mrs. J. Smith and Mrs. J. Pettapiecc of the 11Ion- crief church was sung—"I've Got a Mansion". Mrs. K. Mc- Lean was organist. The roll call was answered with 12 UWC's answering. each giving a highlight in their year's activities. Rev. Grant Mills, chairman of London conference, was also present and spoke a few words. Discussion groups were form- ed, namely: Self-determination, Mrs. Beecroft; co-operation in Christian education, Rev. W. 0. Mathers; citizenship and social action, Mrs. G. Edgar and Mrs. Follis; leadership and develop- ment, Mrs. '13, Bolton. Mrs. John Robinson, of Goshen Church, expressed thanks and courtesy remarks. The 1968 regional is to be held at Varna: A closing worship service, with Ontario St. United Church in charge. Mrs. George E. Pot- ter and Mrs, Harvey Johnston conducting the service. Hymn 314 was sung and meeting closed with benediction. Three -Day Season for Deer Hunters hi Huron County Assured by Department There will be a three-day deer season in several Southern Ontario counties. The •announcement was made by Rene Brunelle, minister of lands and forests. The season, starting Novem- ber 6 and ending November 8, will be held in Perth, Huron, Brant, Halton, Wentworth, Waterloo, Wellington, Grey .and Bruce counties. The only ex- ceptions xceptions are the townships of Amabel, Albemarle, E a s t n o r, Lindsay 'and St. Edmunds in Bruce County where a one-week season will be held. Two limitations will be en- forced for the three-day sea- sons.
