Hockey Meeting
An important meeting to dis-
cuss the possibilities of .an in-
termediate hockey team for
Zurich this winter will be held
in the Zurich Arena on Monday
night, October 23, at 8:30 p.m.
Members of last year's team,
which went to the finals in
WOAA competition, hope there
will be sufficient intez'est shown
by people in the community to
allow a team to compete again.
At the same meeting a dis-
cussion will take place regard-
ing the possibility of a recrea-
tional league operating in Zur-
ich this winter. With the in-
stallation of artificial ice in the
local arena, hockey fans feel
there would be enough interest
shown to operate such a league.
A number of former .hockey
players have indicated they
would like to play in such a
league.

Lutheran Women
Present Play
The October meeting of Luth-
eran Church Women of St.
Peter's Lutheran Church was
held last Tuesday evening with
25 members and the pastor at-
tending.
Mrs. E. Datars was in charge
of the devotions after which
a thought-provoking play, "The
Seeking Hearts", was presented.
Mrs. Gordon Hess was the nar-
rator and Pastor Blackwell, the
voice of scripture, with six
ladies, Mrs.. Datars, Mrs. Ferd
Iiaberer, Mrs. Hubert Sehilbe,
Mrs. H, Turkheim, Mrs. Len
Prang and Mrs. Irvin Playfoot
representing members of an
imaginary LCW organization,
meeting to make plans and dis-
cuss their problems. Hearers
were aroused to ask themselves
questions such as: What does
it mean to be a member of the
LCW?, What purpose does the
organization serve?, How does
one act as an instrument ,of
Christian mission in helping to
declare the good news of Jesus
Christ?, Are we a successful
LCW organization?
The program •seeked to en-
courage women to discover for
themselves answers which will
direct them.
After the hymn, "Oh Master,
Let Me Walk With Thee", was
sung, the president took charge
of the business.
The last month's committee
reported having made nine
calls. Plans were made to
serve a dinner and afternoon
lunch for the ministers and lay-
men of the western district who
were to meet at the church on
Saturday, October 14. Group
one was asked to be in charge.
The meeting adjourned and
a light lunch was served by the
committee,
County Council
(continued from page one)
trip.
"It is not the dollars involved
here; it is the principle that is
at stake," Theil declared.
Warden lir•Ienzie said that
$500 had been set aside for
years now. Two trips had been
taken to university this year,
and that was the money that
was left, The clerk added that
other trips had been token.
Boyle thundered: "Do we
have the right to spend public
money for a trip of our own!"
He didn't rare whether $20 or
$2000 was involved, or whether
the trip was to Toronto, Lon-
don, Montreal or Expo—it was
all the same to him. "1 don't
think we do (have the right to
'spend public money)."
H. B. Such, Goderich, contrib-
uted his argument, "12 4ihis
money is set aside each year for
educational purposes, we can
justify that this trip to Mont-
real was for educational pur-
poses. A trip to Expo may well
be determined as en education-
al trip, whether we went by
bus sponsored by the county,
or on our own."
Still in all, the funds are set
aside for educational purposes
of the county council. They
are not taken from the funds
of the taxpayers.
J. H. Corbett, Hay, said funds
were set aside each year for
bus trips, 'and he didn't see why
the county council shouldn't
use the money for what it likes.
He himself did not go on the
bus trip.
Mrs, Victoria Dedels returned
to her home in Kitchener after
spending a few days with her
sister, Miss Anna Datars, and
her brother and wife, Mr. and
Mrs. E. J. Datars.

James Hayter, Stephen, de-
clared "We all do 'a lot of little
things (for the county); we are
all expected to do things as
councillors. I'm willing to pay
my way with anyone." IIe
thought this situation was not
important enough to worry
about, with so little money in-
volved.
Everett Mcllwain, Goderich
Township, committee chairman,
said some councillors suggested
one day's pay or two days' pay
for the Montreal trip. "That,
we couldn't see," he declared.
Boyle came back with the
suggestion that the $340 in-
volved could be used as a grant
to some worthwhile ,charitable
project, like 'the crippled ehil
dren.
Boyle stated that the point
was that next February when
council starts to think about
budgets, it should consider re-
vising items like this $500 for
bus trips.
