News of Dashwood District
(MRS. E, H. RADER, Correspondent?
On Saturday evening last vis-
itors at the home of Mr. and
Mrs. Fred Ducharme of this
highway were from Detroit:
Mrs. Peter Masse, in her com-
pany was Mrs. Fred Wagner
and slaughter May Beth, also
Miss Jusline Shoemaker, also
from Detroit, They spent a
couple of days in Mrs. Masse's
home in the nearby St, Joseph.
They left Sunday afternoon for
their Detroit homes.
Also at the Ducharme home
on Sunch y last were from Lon-
don, Mr. and Mrs. Cyril Hart-
man and family. They were
accompanied by Mrs. Theresa
Hartman, Zurich.
Mr. and Mrs. Dolph Sopha of
this highway were Sunday last
visitors to Mr. and Mrs. Ed
Turnbull in the Dashwood dis-
trict.
There were not too many
campers the past week in their
cottages along the lake. The
weather this passing summer
has been disagreeable for those
who had planned to spend some
of their vacation as in years
gone by. Let them forget this
year and hope all is good for
another year.
On Thursday last callers at
the home of yours truly and
Mrs. Ducharme were from Utica,
Michigan, Mrs. Guido Saltarelli
and a neighbor lady, Mrs. Ida
Bochener, Coming through
Courtright they picked up Mr.
Charles Bedard, father of Mrs.
Saltarelli, formerly Antionette
Bedard, a native of Courtright.
While here they called on other
relatives and friends, Mr. Be-
dard being a native of this par-
ish. Twenty-three years ago
when Mrs. Saltarelli, known
then as Antoinette Bedard, vis-
ited the Ducharmes with a girl
friend from Detroit, and it be-
ing in harvest time and when
grain was newly threshed some-
thing new to the Detroit visitors
accompanied by one of the Du-
charme boys. Like all teenagers
would do for sport they began
to tramp on the loose straw

stack, sometimes nearly sinking
over their heads, enjoying them-
selves to their hearts content
and finally to top off their little
prank they had snapshots taken
of the trio in different positions
on the straw stack. The recent
visit of Mrs. Saltarelli and her
company renewed many sweet
memories of those many years
gone by. Their visit to the Du-
charmes was much welcomed
and looking forward for a fu-
ture one.
Visitors at the home of Mr.
and Mrs. Ed Corriveau were
from Goderich, Mr. and Mrs.
Anthony Masse, Mr. and Mrs.
Noel Dumont and son, also from
Goderich and Miss Mary Ann
Wild, of the Dashwood district.
Mrs. Celima Bedard of this
neighborhood, in company with
Mr. and Mrs. George Kuschet,
motored to Kitchener on Sun-
day to spend a few days with
the Kuschet family.
Good Weather Needed
At time of writing, the be-
ginning of the first week of Oc-
tober, the weather is perfect
for the farmers, dry and warm.
Farmers are looking for that
and each day at this time of
year counts and each one could
bring to farmers that many
could not survive it, The young
farmers especially, and who
knows perhaps the older farm-
ers putting up a high front in
society would be the first one
to feel the loss.
This present week, the first
one in the month of October,
will perhaps tell the tale for
the harvesting of their bean
crop. Should all of the week
be nice and free from rain or
broken weather to cause delay,
many fields would he pulled
and threshed and perhaps with
little damage to the crops.
Should it be otherwise, a few
wet days could cause much
damage to their crops.
Many farmers put their trust
in their bean crop for planned
projects and should they fail
the project would have to be
shelved. Farmers are not mas-
ters of their industry which
means he must be in the rut
before anyone will come to his
assistance, and that when he
is clown and out. Let us hope
the weather will be favorable
for them for the time it will
take to harvest their bean crop.
