Farmers are busy in •their
bean fields pulling and thresh-
ing their beans. The bean crop
e, Correspondent
is disappointing for the farmers
and will perhaps go on record
for the poorest crop in years
past. The wet summer was
perhaps the greater cause for
it for many fields of beans were
under water for some time, kill-
ing the plants. The harvesting
of the bean crop could cause
more worry for the farmers for
already it is late in the season.
Any time when least expected
a frost and rain could do much
damage to the late crop. In
all, perhaps farmers can count
on only a light crop which
could cause an advancement in
price .that in a way would help
the farmers. Growing beans is
a blind chance every year taken
by farmers, some are lucky
while many more are hit in
some way. Therefore farmers
cannot put to much trust in
bean growing especially to
carry on.
0
Crop Report
The recent showers have been
very helpful for the uniform
germination of winter wheat.
As well, fall plowing is now
somewhat easier in most parts
of Huron County.
Frost damage is apparent on
corn and beans in some areas.
The white bean harvest was
held up temporarily during the
wet weather but quality of the
beans pulled before the rains
should not be particularly af-
fected.
