SEPTEMBER, 1917
In response to the request
of the warden's committee of
Huron County, five tractors
will be sent to Huron to assist
in the fall plowing •of land.
These new machines are capa-
ble of working up nearly an
acre in one hotly, and they
should prove quite beneficial to
the farmers.
As a beginning to the end,
the store of Milne Rennie in
Hensall will have all the stock
sold at auction sales, beginning
Saturday afternoon, and con-
tinuing every evening until
everything has been disposed of.
James Hagen is making some
vast improvements to his home
in Hensall.
Mrs. Minnie Hess, who has
been visiting relatives in Zur-
ich for some time, has now re-
turned to her home in South
Bend.
40 Years Ago
SEPTEMBER, 1927
Miss V. Siebert, Zurich mil-
liner, has just opened up a fine
new shipment of fall and win-
ter hats, in all sizes and styles.
Considerable commotion was
aroused in Zurich on Tuesday
when an aeroplane hovered
about the village for some
time, then finally landing on a
field north of the village. Some
20 passengers went up for a
ride when they found that was
the purpose of the plane being
present.
The application of Lulu Al-
brecht, as manager of the Zur-
ich telephone central office,
was accepted by Hay Township
council. at a salary of $15 per
week.
Gerald Farquhar, of the Bank
of Montreal staff in Hensall,
has resigned his position and
left for the west, accompanied
by Donald Hoggarth and Carl
Passmore, each one intending
to secure suitable employment
there.
Mr. and Mrs. Onier Denomme,
of Detroit, are spending their
honeymoon with the fornier's
parents, Mr. and Mrs. William
Denomme, on the Bluewater
Highway.

SEPTEMBER, 1942
Miss Shirley Krueger, who
has been on the staff of the
local telephone office at Zurich,
has left for Nilestown, where
she has accepted another posi-
tion.
The wet season has apparent-
ly arrived a little earlier this
year, and farmers will be ex-
periencing difficulty in harvest-
ing their crops.
The canning factory at Ex-
eter has commenced the pack-
ing of their corn crop, and

While backing a team of
horses down the gangway on his
farm Saturday afternoon, Alex
Buchanan had the misfortune
to have the team and wagon
both upset over the edge. He
received a double fracture to
his leg in the mishap.
Ross Guenther, who is sta-
tioned at Nova Scotia presently,
spent a few days at the home of
his parents in Dashwood.

SEPTEMBER, 1952
Leo Meidinger has purchased
a fine lot from Mrs. William
Witmer, in Zurich, and he in-
tends building a new home on
the property.
Tuesday of this week was the
first day of the autumn season,
and the cool nights make one
feel that winter may be on its
way soon.
Farmers are still quite busy
with their bean harvest, and
while the yield is a bit below
some years, the quality of the
beans is real good.
Allan Gascho has a group of
men busy excavating for the
basement of a new home which
he is going to build in the south-
west section of Zurich.

SEPTEMBER, 1957
Thomas Pryde, of Exeter,
Huron MLA, who suffered a
serious heart attack in July, is
reported to be in an improved
condition in Victoria Hospital,
London, where he has been
since his attack.

Kippen 4-H Girls
Study Cottons
The first meeting of Kippen
one 4-H project, "Cotton Ac-
cessories for the Bedroom", was
held in the Legion Hall, Hen-
sall, Tuesday, September 12,
with 14 girls in this club. The
meeting opened with the 4-H
pledge, followed by the busi-
ness and election. "
President is Anne Klein -Haar;
vice-president, Dianne McKay;
floating secretary, Patsy Parker
(first meeting); telephone girl,
Gwen McLean; pianist, Mari-
anne Roberts; lunch committee,
Karen Sararas, Gwen McLean.
Leader Mrs. Ken McLean then
outlined the requirements of

Arn Meyers pitched a neat four -
hitter against Walsingham in
the first game of the all -Ontario
baseball championship series,

off a barn owned by Don Hul-
bert, on the Babylon Line.
Twenty district men joined in
to help restore the building to

James Masse, who received
injuries in a traffic accident
last week, has returned to his
home on Highway 21, and is
much improved.
The paving of Highway 84
from St. Joseph to Hensall has
begun, and when the work is
completed this will be one of
the finest strips of highway in
this part of western Ontario.
