Geiger Reunion at
Bayfield Park
The fourth family reunion of
the family of Moses Geiger and
Catherine Eckstein was held at
Bayfield Agricultural Park on
August 6.
Sixty-two members attended
from Bolton, Clinton, Crediton,
Dashwood, Essex, Kippen, Lon-
don, Parkhill, Preston and Zur-
ich. Various games and races
were enjoyed by all during the
afternoon.
Following the sports every-
one sat down to a delicious
supper. Gordon Geiger, the
president, acted as chairman
for the election of •officers for
the coming year, Gordon Geiger
was elected president, Keith
Horner vice-president, and Rob-
ert Horner secretary -treasurer.
Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Horner
were elected to the sports com-
mittee and Mrs. Carl Wither-
spoon, Mrs. Earl Horner and
and John Geiger to the lunch
committee.
After a short discussion it
was decided to hold the re-
union again the first Sunday in
August, 1968, at the same place.
Dashwood -Zurich Rivalry Continues
Baseball fever has hit a new
peak in the area during the
past couple of weeks, with two
old rivals, Zurich Kings and the
Dashwood Tigers, battling for
the group championship. Prior
to last Sunday afternoon, both
teams had won three games in
the best of seven series, and
then in the seventh and decid-
ing game the two teams battled
to a thrilling 5-5 nine -inning
tie.
The sudden -death deciding
game was scheduled for last
night (Wednesday) at the Zur-
ich ball park, but at press time
it was still not certain whether
it would be played or not, On
Tuesday the Dashwood manage-
ment had refused to play the
game in Zurich and for a while
there was talk of it being played
in Mitchel.
Sunday Game
The seventh game on Sunday
was probably one of the most
thrilling to be played in the
area for some time, as both
teams tried hard to squeeze the
ertra run across the plate. Zur-
ich jumped into a 2-0 lead in
their half of the first inning

when Earl Wagner reached
first on an error and Doug
O'Brien worked a base on balls.
After Overholt also walked,
Bruce Horton lined out a single
to deep left field to score two
runs.
Dashwood came right back
with two runs in the last half
of the inning when they com-
bined two singles andan error,
Dick Bedard led off the sec-
ond inning with a towering
double, and then scored on Earl
Wagner's double. The locals
added two more runs in the
third when Overholt walked,
Horton was hit by the pitcher
and McNaughton also walked.
A single by George Haggitt
scored the two runs,
Dashwood fought right back
in the third, fourth and sixth
innings to pick up one run in
each, and knot the score at 5-5.
The last three innings were
scoreless despite many threats
by both teams.
All the Zurich runs were
scored off starter Eugen Guen-
ther before Dave Ratz came on
in the third to halt the upris-
ing, Guenther gave up four
hits, while Ratz four in the last
six innings. Robert McNaugh-
tan started for Zurich and
pitched good ball for seven and
one-third innings,. before giv-
ing way to Don O'Brien. Mc-
Naughton gave up ten hits,
while O'Brien held the Tigers
hitless in the last one and two-
thirds innings.
Earl Wagner, with a double
and two singles, led the Zurich
batters, Bruce Horton had a
double and a single, and the
rest of the hits were picked up
by Bob Johnston, Dick Bedard
and George Haggit.
Stan Lovie, with a hone run
and tipple, and Bob Hoffman,
with three singles, were the top
men with the willow for the
D a s h w o o d tribe. Dave Ratz
and Whitey Denomme both hit
safely twice.
The largest crowd in many
years, estimated at close to 700
people, were on hand to watch
the bitter rivals battle it out.
Prior to the Sunday game at
Dashwood, the Dings had won
the first, third and fifth games
of the series, only to see the
Tigers come back and tie the
series each time in the second,
fourth and sixth games. Oddly
enough, bath teams won the
three games played on the other
team's home diamond.
