THEY MEAN BUSINESS — When
the Hensall Kinsmen announced that
anyone who was not growing a beard'
for their centennial celebration this
week -end must purchase a shaving
permit, they meant it. Those who
were found guilty of such an offence
have been liable to the punishment as
indicated in this photo, where reeve
Minnie Noakes is ready to officiate.

McArthur Reunion
At Exeter Park
Forty-three members of the
McArthur clan attended their
annual reunion at Riverview
Park, Exeter, on Sunday. Sports,
arranged by Mrs. S. McQueen
and Mrs. H. Snell, carried out
the centennial theme and the
prize for centennial costume
went to Mrs. John Rigby, of
Blenheim.
President Dave Hall, of To-
ronto, conducted the business
and those elected to office for
the 1968 reunion to be held the
second Sunday in July at River-
view Park, Exeter, are: presi-
dent, Bob Bell; secretary -treas-
urer, Mrs. Bob Bell; table com-
mittee, Mr. and Mrs. Hilt Laing,
and sports committee, Danny
Laing and Ken Ferguson.

Large Crowd At
Chicken Batecue
Four hundred and fifty peo-
ple were served at a chicken
barbecue held at St. Andrew's
United Church, Kippen, on
Wednesday night, which real-
ized over $200.
The event was sponsored by
the United Church Women and
convened by Mrs. Robert Mc-
Gregor, assisted by the ladies
of the church.

dena, Cal., visited on Wednes-
day with their brother and sis-
ter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Laird
Mickle.
Mr. and Mrs. A. Crago, of
Kirkton, and Mr. and Mrs. G.
Macklin, Toronto, visited with
Mr. and Mrs. George Armstrong
last week. Mrs. Macklin is the
former Norma Ferguson, daugh-
ter of the late Dr. and Mrs. W.
S. Ferguson, formerly of Hen-
sall.
Bride -elect Feted
On Wednesday evening a
shower was held in the Hensall
Legion Hall to honor Miss Mari-
lyn Maxwell, bride -elect of this
month. Marilyn was escorted
to her decorated chair by Lynda
Regan. Misses Ann Smith and
Lynda Regan, friends •of the
bride, were in charge of the
program, which consisted of
contests, quizzes and bingo.
Misses Brenda and Lori Regan
carried in a decorated basket
of many beautiful and useful
gifts. After opening the gifts
Marilyn spoke a few words of
thanks,
Graduates at Wingham
Mr. and Mrs. Ross Forrest
entertained 30 relatives at their
home Friday evening in honor
of their daughter, Deanna, who
graduated as nursing assistant
from Wingham and District
General Hospital Friday after-

SndY ie Reunion
The thirtieth annual reunion
of the Ben Smillie and Thomas
Eider clans was held at the
Lions Park m Seaforth on Sat-
urday, July 8, This is the first
joint reunion of these two
clans ---the first Irish --the sec-
ond Scottish.
The family tree of the Smil-
lie clan was .completed two
years ago and dates hack to
1760. The Elder family tree
was just completed in time for
this reunion and dates back to
1740. The home farm, near
Edinburgh, is still owned by
the family. Both clans have
members throughout Canada
and the U.S.A.
The large number present
enjoyed a luncheon at noon and
a dinner in the early evening.
The afternoon was spent swim-
ming, playing games and visit-
ing. Member were present from
Seaforth, Hensall, Zurich,
Blyth, St. Catharines, Hamilton,
Toronto, London,
The officers elected for the
coming year are: honorary
president, Dr. Jennie Smillie
Robertson; president, Mrs. Jean
Statham; vice-president, Jack
Peck; secretary -treasurer, Miss
Dianne Peck; historian, Mrs.
Grace Peck; business commit-
tee, Stewart Smillie, Miss Ella
Elder, Mrs. Pearl Geiger; mem-
bership, Lorne Elder; social
commitee, Mrs. Grace Peck,
Mrs. Ray Elder, Mrs. Sue Elder,
Mrs. Elva Peck, Mrs. Dorothy
Elliott; billet convenor, Mrs.
Dorothy Elder; sports conven-
ors, Norma and Ken Gemmell.
The reunion in 1968 will be
held at the same location, on
July 8.

Bridal Shower
Complimenting Miss Jean
Henderson, bride -elect of Au-
gust, a miscellaneous shower
was held in her honor at the
Legion Hall, Hensall, Thursday
evening, attended by over 70
relatives, neighbors and friends.
The hall was a bower of beau-
ty artistically arranged in pink
and white motif.
The program featured a mock
wedding with roles portrayed
by: bride, Mrs. Gordon Schwalm;
groom, Mrs. V. M. Pyette; maid
of honor, Mrs. Ron Mock; flow-
er girl, Kay Davis; best man,
Mrs. Wilbert Dilling; mother,
Mrs. Walker Carlile; father,
Mrs. Wilmer Ferguson; minis-
ter, Mrs. Leonard Noakes; ac-
