Moritz have returned home after their extended trip to Toronto, Ni- agara Falls and the Thousand Islands, They report very in- teresting scenery along the way. In the baseball match be- tween Zurich and Dashwood teams the other night, the game was won by Zurich, with the score being 14.3. E. Appel, E. Axt and J, Rick - bell spent a few hours perch fishing at St. Joseph on Sunday, and when they came home they had close to 100. Lennis Calfas has left Zurich for Kitchener, where he has se- cured a position. The continued wet weather has been very hard on the bean crop, and many area farmers have plowed the beans down and sown buckwheat instead. The Sterling Bank of Canada have opened a branch in Hen- sall, for the convenience of the public. Miss Marie Mackay, who has been the well -liked school teacher at St, Joseph for some time, has left for Stratford. 40 Years Ago JULY, 1927 A pleasant evening was spent at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Blake Horner, on the 14th con- cession, when the ratepayers gathered to spend a farewell evening with their school teach- er, Miss Jessie MacDonald. Mr. and Mrs. Richard Robin- son and family, who have spent the past eight months at Car- lyle, Saskatchewan, have re- turned to the old home place in Stanley Township, where they plan on spending the sum- mer months. A pretty wedding took place at the Lutheran parsonage in Zurich on Wednesday, when Rev. H. Rembe united in mar- riage Albert G. Hess and Mar- garet Fuss. The couple will re- side in the apartment over the jewelery store. Ferris Cantelon, of Ondanago, is spending the summer holi- days at his home in Hensall. Archie Rowcliffe has pur- chased the milk business in Hensall, which has been oper- ated by Thomas Sherritt. 25 Years go JULY, 1942 A happy matrimonial event took place at London on Sat- urday when Ellen Leah Jeffrey, of Blake, was united in mar- riage to Napoleom Ducharme, of St. Joseph. Mr. and Mrs. John Elder, of Hensall, celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on Satur- day. Allan Gashco, son of Mr. and Mrs. John Gascho, Zurich, has left for Toronto where he will begin training with the Air Force. Mr. and Mrs. Victor Dinnin have left for London, where they will live for the next six weeks, while Mr. Dinnin will attend summer school at the University of Western Ontario. St. Pierre and children, of London, have moved into the former Siebert residence in Zurich, where the doctor has been practicing for the past while. Hay Township reeve Earl Campbell was the champion in an egg throwing contest held Tuesday at Exeter Dominion Day celebrations. He had two direct .hits. The Zurich Women's Institute on Wednesday night served a delicious ham and strawberry supper in the Town Hall, and the results were gratifying. Some 165 members of the Surerus families gathered for their annual reunion in the beautiful Victoria P a r k, at Stratford. A highlight of the reunion was a presentation of the history of the Surerus fanc- ily, by Professor Alvin Surerus. At the June meeting of the Huron Presbytery, permission was granted members of the Hillsgreen church to close, and sell their buildings for $800. They will now join with the congregation at Kippen, 10 Years Ago JULY, 1957 Barbara Anne Becker, daugh- ter of Hay Township reeve V. L. Becker, received two awards during graduation ceremonies at Kitchener -Waterloo hospital. Father M. D. Monaghan will be leaving Zurich for Merlin parish, and his place in Zurich will be filled by Father C. A. Doyle. Father Monaghan has been the parish priest here for the past six and a half years. Cars driven by Joseph Cantin, RR 2, Zurich, and Warren FIan- nigan, of Lucan, collided near St. Joseph and caused an esti- mated $225 damage to the vehicles. Wedding IMANSE--CLAUSIUS Ruth Elaine Clausius became the bride of Andrew Imanse June 10, 1967, at 4 p.m. at a double ring ceremong in Peace Lutheran Church, Exeter, with Rev, E. Steinman officiating. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and. Mrs. Albert Clausius, Zurich, and the groom's parents are Mr. and Mrs. John Imanse, RR 1, Varna. The church was decorated with pink and white gladioli and candelabra for the wedding service, Soloist, Miss Mary Ann Hayter sang "The Wedding Prayer" and "Let Us Ever Walk With Jesus", accompanied at the organ by Miss Linda Rader. Given in marriage by her fa- ther, the bride was beautiful in a gown of frosted silk son - este, featuring wing sleeves of imported ribbon lace trimmed with matching bows. A jewel neckline gave way to a fitted bodice, and a graceful A-line skirt with a dual row of cov- ered buttons down the centre front. Back detail was centred on a gracefully built-in •cathe- dral train. Her custom made tiny headdress of silk sonesta was a band, with tiny roses in her hair, from which draped a double tier of imported pure silk illusion, veiling the train. She carried a cascade of mauve orchids with white stephanotis and trailing ivy. Mrs. Karen Rader, sister of the bride, as matron of honor, and Miss Joanne 'manse, sister •of the groom, and Miss Cheryl Clausius, sister of the bride, as bridesmands, were gowned alike in long empire styled gowns of Dior green silk brocade in the bridal knot pattern. Their veils fell from a rosette headpiece and they carried a cascade bou- quet of pink and orchid minia- ture carnations. The flower girl, Patti Lynn Although the bean erop in Huron appears to be average, the corn crop, for some reason or other, is away behind sched- ule for this time of the year. Tom Pryde, Huron MLA, was a special guest at the annual ladies' night of the Zurich Cham- ber of Commerce. An unfit vehicle may only be sold after the plates have been removed and returned to the Department. The purchaser will receive a Bill of Sale. After repairs, registration plates can be obtained for such a vehicle by submitting, to the Department, the Bill of Sale and a Certificate of Fitness signed by_a certified motor mechanic. REPORTING OF MEDICALLY UNFIT DRIVERS It is the duty of every legally qualified medical practi- tioner to report to the Registrar the name, address and diagnosis of every person coming under his diagnosis,. treatment, care or charge who is suffering from a condi- tion that in the opinion of the medical practitioner is such as to make it dangerous for such person to operate a motor vehicle. EFFECTIVE NOW. MOTORCYCLES REQUIRE TWO BRAKING SYSTEMS Every motorcycle when being operated on a highway shall be equipped with at least two braking systems each with a separate means of application with one effective on the front wheel and one effective on the rear wheel. EFFECTIVE JULY 1, 1967. AIRCRAFT ON HIGHWAYS When an aircraft makes an emergency landing on a highway, the pilot must have it removed within a rea- sonable time. When an aircraft Is being driven or drawn along a high- way, its movement must comply with the provisions of the Highway Traffic Act. EFFECTIVE JULY 1, 1967. MUFFLERS New requirements as to mufflers have been enacted, prohibiting the use of a muffler cutout, straight ex- haust, gutted muffler, hollywood muffler, by-pass or similar device upon a motor vehicle.
