First Zurich Girl Guides en»
tertained at the Women's Insti-
tute May meeting. Mrs. Carol
Deitz, leader •of Zurich Girl
Guides, introduced Carol Gascho
and her new style uniform, and
Joanne Thiel wearing a Guide
uniform from Israel.
Shirley Thiel and Linda Stade
wore dresses from Israel. Each
Guide spoke about the country
of Israel. This country was
studied by the girls and de-
scribed to the Institute.
Maps, travel folders, a hand-
carved caravan of camels, and
other items were displayed. The
Guides served honey bread for
lunch, a favorite in Israel. This
entertaining project and the
country studied earned the four
Guides badges toward receiving
the Gold Cord.
The Majorettes, Annette Zim-
mer, Nancy Rae McKinnon and
Marilyn Gascho each gave a
number with their batons. Lois
Doerr did a Scottish dance.
For the regular business the
president asked for a moment
of silence in memory of Mrs.
Mary Manson, who passed away
on April 28. A motionwas
carried to entertain for birth-
day party at the Rest Home in
the fall.

The 19th annual Emmy
Awards will be televised by
ABC-TV June 4, at 9 p.m., with
Jimmy Durante, Danny Thomas,
Carl Reiner and Anissa Jones
joining the list of star present-
ers.
Portions of some of the nomi-
nated Variety 'Specials will be
seen. They include A Time For
Laughter, The Bob Hope Christ-
mas Special, Dick Van Dyke and
The Sid Caesar Special.
Portions of Toscanini — The
Maestro Revisited, Brigadoon
and Frank Sinatra — A Man
and His Music, nominated in the
musical •category, will also be
aired during the two-hour cere-
mony.

Thursday's comparative net-
work schedule for the coming
fall season looks like this. At
7:30 ABC will play Batman;
CBS will run €immaron Strip,
NBC will go with Daniel Bonne;
CTV, Star Trek and CBC will
run Chic Chic.
At 8 o'clock The Flying Nun
will be seen on ABC, and Green
Acres will be run on CBC. The
other networks will play the
last part of their hour shows
which started at 7:30.
At 8:30 ABC will play Be-
witched; CBS will run a movie;
NBC will play Ironside; CTV
will run It's Happening, and
CBC will play Telescope.
At 9 ABC will go with That
Girl; 'CTV will run Dean Martin
and CBC will play The Man
From Uncle.
At 9:30 ABC has scheduled
Peyton Place and NBC will play
Dragnet.
At 10 ABC will play R.S.V.P.;
NBC will play Dean Martin;
CTV will go with Mannix, and
CBC will play Dragnet.

JUNE, 1917
The cold backward weather
of this spring has had a bad
effect on the bee industry.
Many of the bees have suc-
cumbed to the cold and damp-
ness and consequently the out-
look for the future in this par-
ticular line is rather gloomy.
In June, 1917, butter was 35
cents per pound and eggs were
38 cents per dozen.
Very drastic methods have
been adopted to prevent all Ca-
nadians of military age from
evading military service by
•c re s s i n g the international
boundary. Those who attempt
to leave their respecive •coun-
tries without permission will
have to run the gauntlet of a
double set of border officials.
H. Hoffman, of Dashwood,
moved the household effects of
Mr. Ruby, of Zurich, to Kit-
chener.

the facilities of a new up-to-date
milk delivery wagon which is •a
big improvement to the former
one used.
Quite a number from Blake
took in the moonlight excur-
sion on the Greyhound steamer
at Goderich on Monday eve-
ning.

40 cents per pound.

Huron County council at Goder-
ich.

Crop Report
In the past week we have ex-
perienced dry, hot weather in
Huron County. This dryness
has contributed to slow bean
planting, as a large percentage
of bean seedbeds are too dry to
promote germination.
Herbicide application is near-
ing completion on most •of our
field crops.
Cattle are doing well on pas-
tures, but growth is slow.

day to visit relatives.
On Monday morning at eleven
o'clock Father William Bour-
deau celebrated his silver jubi-
lee. Among the guests present
were some priests of his class
of those years gone by; Mr, and
Mrs. A. Y. MacLean, MP, Sea -
forth; Thomas Pryde, MPP, of
Exeter; Father Bourdeau's par-
ents, and Sir Henry Gignas, of
Windsor.
