Hensall Legion To Observe Week With Services National Veterans' W e e k, June 11 to 17, is being spon- sored as part of Canada's Cen- tennial ,celebrations by the gov- ernment of Canada, through the department of veterans' af- fairs, and veterans' associations. The Hensall branch of the Canadian Legion will ,hold a memorial parade on Sunday, June 11, at 10:30 a.m., followed by a service at Hensall 'United Church at 11 o'clock. Legion and Auxiliary members, also members of all local organiza- tions are invited to attend this parade. MRS. MAUDE REDDEN, Editor Mr. and Mrs. Felix Booge- mans, of Burlington; Mr. and Mrs. Ronald Passmore and sons Michael and Mark, London, vis- ited over the week -end with Mrs, Pearl Passmore, and at- tended the funeral of the late Percy Harris on Saturday. Mr. and Mrs. Karl Haslip and family, of Burlington, visited on Sunday with Mrs. Eric Kennedy and Ira Geiger. Hensall Centennial commit- tee learned at their Wednesday night meeting that Anna Mac- Donald, women's editor, CKNX- TV, Wingham, will be present at their Centennial Frontier Days, Saturday, July 15, to act as MC for the fashion show. The Canadian Legion will march with other organizations to Hensall United Church Sun- day, June 11, •to observe Vet- erans' Week. The Legion is also sponsoring the T -A Choris- ters at a later date. Mr. and Mrs. Earl Campbell were in St. Thomas Tuesday afternoon of this week attend- ing the funeral of the late Mrs. Many Area Winners Listed in Legion Auxiliary Annual Penny Sale Draw A successful giant annual penny sale, sponsored by Hen- sall Legion Ladies' Auxiliary, was held Friday evening, June 2, in the Legion Hall. Fifty- seven lovely prizes, donated by Hensall and district merchants, were drawn for by Reeve Minnie Noakes. Prizes went to Zurich, Exeter, Seaforth, Elmwood, Blyth, Goderich, Grand Bend, Clinton, Kippen and Hensall. (Winners whose addresses are mot designated are from Hen- ' sall.) Brian Jeffrey, infant son of Mr. and Mrs. Douglas Cooper, received the rites of holy bap- tism at the United Church serv- ice last Sunday morning. Mrs. Alice Campbell, Exeter, has returned to Exeter after a visit with her son and daughter- in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Earl Camp- bell. SURPRISE PARTY Mr. and Mrs. Garnet Allan were very pleasantly surprised at their home Saturday evening, June 3, when some 30 neigh- bors, friends and relatives met to honor them on the occasion of their 15th wedding annivers- ary and to present them with gifts of a coffee table, two end tables, two lamps, and a blan- ket. Guests were present from London, Seaforth, Egmondville and Hensall. A social time was spent and lunch served. Wednesday afternoon, June 7, an' anniversary tea was held for Mrs. Allan. PAGE THREE Carmel Women Observe Birthday Mrs. John Pollock, Goderieh, president of Huron Presbyter- ial, was guest speaker at the '77th birthday party of the Women's Missionary Society of Carmel Presbyterian Church on Monday evening. Speaking on "Headlines", she stated that the church has to make headlines and be ready to change old ideas in a changing world. She related some personal ex- periences illustrating her point. The speaker was introduced by Mrs. Harvey Hyde and thanked by Mrs. Gordon Schwalm. The church auditorium was lovely, decorated with early summer flowers. The meeting was presided over by president Mrs. Earl Campbell, who also was in charge of the devotional, assisted by Mrs. Percy Camp- bell. Special guests were the UCW from Chiselhurst and Kippen United churches, the WMS and Barbara Kirkman group from First Presbyterian Church, Sea - forth, and Arnold Circle of this church. Mrs. Beatrice Hess, of Zurich, was guest soloist. Lunch, which included an an- niversary cake and cut by Mrs, J. C. Boyne, was served in the Sunday school rooms. Attendants at their wedding 25 years ago were Mrs. Ross Forrest, RR 2, Kippen, sister of the bride, and Harold. Coleman, Seaforth, brother of the groom. The bride's table was cen- tred with a three-tier wedding cake. Lovely gifts were pre- sented to the celebrants, includ- ing a money tree. A social hour playing cards was enjoyed. Guests attended from Cleve- land, Ohio; Detroit, Flint, Grand Bend and Fenton, Michigan; London, Zurich, Clinton, Bruce - field, Seaforth, Staffa, Cromarty and Kippen. St. Paul's Church The 90th anniversary of St. Paul's Anglican Church, Hen- sall, will be observed Sunday, June 11, at 7 p.m., when Rev. M. B. Parker of Burford, a former minister, will be guest speaker. Plans Anniversary All former ministers and members have been invited to this service. The choir will render special music.
