30 YEARS SERVICE—Mrs. Lerina Rose, of
Zurich, was honored by the Supertest Company re-
cently and was presented with a silver tray com-
memorating 30 years of service. Mrs. Rose is a
familiar figure around the village and those who
know her will share her happiness at the special
token of recognition.
50 Years Ago
MAY, 1917
Wendell Smith, of the Goshen
Line, has sold his 25 -acre farm
on concession 8, Hay Township,
to John Bender, of near Dash-
wood.
Dr. Elmer Truemner, son of
Dan Truemner, of the Goshen
Line south, has passed his final
year at the College of Dental
Surgeons, and has obtained the
degree of DDS.
Dr. A. J. MacKinnon is hav-
ing a large hen house erected
on his property in Zurich, and
plans on going into egg produc-
tion in an extensive way,
Investigations show that
barns that are properly rodded
are immune from lightning
fires.
The Blake Presbyterian
Church was crowded to the
doors on Sunday afternoon, for
the memorial service conduct-
ed for Private G. H. McBride,
who fell in the Vimy battle.
John E. McEwen, just south
of Hensall, is busy raising the
structure for a fine new barn.
Robert Drysdale has left Hen-
sall for the western provinces,
where he intends to spend the
summer months.

MAY, 1927
When the predicted 450 miles
to the gallon automobile comes
along the predicted price of the
gasoline will be $4.50 per gallon.
Mr, F. C. Kalbfleisch, of the
village of Zurich, has exchanged
his Chevrolet touring car for a
slick new Pontiac sedan, from
Harry Angel.
On Tuesday afternoon the
laying of the corner stone for
the new United Church at
Grand Bend took place, and
one of the dignitaries attend-
ing the event was Thomas Mc-
Millan, MP for Huron County.
Doctors are advising people
to listen to radios with closed
eyes, it plight also be a relief
at tunes to listen with closed
ears as well.
Robert Higgins will be the
issuer of liquor permits for the
village of Hensall, and has some
for sale at the present time.
Mr. and Mrs. Triffle Laporte,
of Detroit, moved their house-
hold effects into the vacant
house of Charlie Laporte, for
the summer season,

25 Years Ago

modation for Japanese who are
being brought in from British
Columbia to help with sugar
beets.
Mr. and Mrs. Orville McClin-
ehey and daughter Donna Joyce
were all injured in an auto ac-
cident near Seaforth last Fri-
day.
The sugar ration for all Ca-
nadians has been reduced from
three-quarters of a pound per
week per person to a half -pound
per week. As well, each home
may purchase a half -pound of
sugar for each pound of. pre-
serves.
Word has been received of
the safe arrival of Dr. J. A.
A d d i s o n, in Saskatchewan,
where he will be in charge of
the hospital work in Lampman.
Prayers were offered in St,
Peter's Church, St. Joseph, for
Orval Corriveau, who has been
officially reported as missing
in action with the US Marine
Corps.
MAY, 1942
The home of Mr. and Mrs.
Albert Hendrick, of the Blue -
water Highway, was the scene
of the marriage of their young-
est daughter, Ruth Cameron, to
Mr, Harry M. Cole, of Exeter.
Workmen are busy with the
erection of a new building, 24x
90, on the farm of Fred Eller -

Dashwood is preparing for a
large sports day on May 24,
when the Tigers will play hosts
to the powerful Exeter squad.
A large parade will start the
day off at 12:30.
Preparations are being made
by various committees of St.
Peter's R.C. Church at St. Jo-
seph, for the occasion of Father
Bourdeau's silver jubilee to the
priesthood, which will take
place from May 31 to June 2.
MAY, 1952
The newly appointed man-
ager for the Zurich branch of
the Bank of Montreal is C. W.
Scott, who is coming from
Douglas, Ontario. The former
manager, C. C. McEachern, is
being transferred to Iroquois.
Lieutenant Orval Corriveau
of the US Marine Corps has just
received word of his promotion
in rank, after serving 12 years
in the force. He spent three
and a half years in Japanese
prisoner of war camps, before
being released. In 1942 he was
reported missing in action, but
had been taken a prisoner by
the Japs. He will now serve
as a recruiting officer.
10 Years Ago
MAY, 1957
Bill Elliott, son of Mr, and
Mrs. Mel Elliott, RR 1, Zurich,
was ane of the winners in the
Canadian Legion public speak-
ing contest held at Clinton over
the past week -end.
Two garages in Zurich, Pear-
son Motors and Klopp's Super
Service, were broken into over
the week -end, and a large quan-
tity of tires', cigarettes and
money were taken from both.
One of the oldest andmost
highly respected citizens on the
Blue Water Highway passed
away Sunday, in the person of
Mrs. Joseph Bedard, Sr., who
was in her 94th year.
Friday, June 14, has been set
as the date for the annual West-
ern Ontario Fiddlers' Contest,
to be heldin the Hensall Arena.
Fred Kerr, a life-long promi-
nent resident of Crediton, and
a former brick and tile manu-
facturer, passed away on Satur-
day in his 81st year.

Growth of winter wheat,
spring grains, hays and pas-
tures continues to be slow be-
cause of cool days and frosty
nights. All crops lack the top
growth vigor which is usually
apparent by this time of the
year.
A large percentage of the
cereal grain and corn crop has
been planted in Huron County.
More than one-third of the
canning pea acreage has been
seeded. Root development has
been good, however, warm sun-
ny weather is needed to pro-
mote increased growth.
Many beef cattle are on grass
and some dairy cattle are now
being turned out to pasture.
Stored feed supplies are ade-
quate on the majority of farms
for the prolonged stabling of
livestock.
