(Citizens News Photo) Winners Declared in Boy's and Girl' Basketball Leagues as Season Ends By Kevin McKinnon On Sunday, April 30, the last day of basketball, the cham- pions •of both leagues were de- clared by virtue of their wins over their opponents. The •champions of the girls' league were the Homesteaders, whose captain was Sandra Des- jardine. The winners of the boys' hoop were the Aeadians, whose captain was Kevin Mc- Kinnon. The game was close for the first quarter as the score was 18-9 for the win- ners, but after the start of the second quarter the Acadians found the range and began to score frequently. Kevin McKinnon led the win- ners with 29 points, followed next by John Gascho with 15, Ed Prang with five and Ken Westlake and Doug ,Coxon with one apiece. Ken Clarke led the losers with 13 points, fol- lowed by Aubrey Bedard with seven. In the girls' final the Home- steaders won over the Federa- tions by a score of 30-12. The game was not an especially close one for such an impor- tant game as the Homesteaders led all the way. Jo-anne Lansbergen led the winners with 10 points, followed by Gwen .Clausius with eight, Sandra Desjardine and Marcia Merner with six each. Carolyn Thiel led the losers with six points, followed by Linda Webb with four and Jo -Anne Thiel with two. This completes the basketball in Zurich for this year and I would just like to thank players and officials alike for their co- operation in making this pro- gram such a success. 0 Obituary Mrs. Edward Stelck Mrs. Ed Stelck, 85, widow of Ed Stelck, the former Anna Amelia Hey, of Dash wo o d, passed away at the Blue Water Rest Home, Sunday, April 30. She is survived (by a son, Mer- vyn, of Bradford; one brother, William Hey, Dashwood. The funeral was held Wednes- day, May 3, from the T. Harry Hoffman funeral home with Rev. Merrill James in charge of the service. Interment was made in Bayfield cemetery. Pall bearers were Carl Oest- reicher, Vernon Schatz, Irvin and Alvin Rader, Ervin Eck- stein and Jack Gaiser. 0 Wes Venner has taken up residence with his son and daughter-in-Iaw, Mr. and Mrs. Murray Venner, and family, of Grand Bend.
