Winners Declared in Boy's and Girl'
Basketball Leagues as Season Ends
By Kevin McKinnon
On Sunday, April 30, the last
day of basketball, the cham-
pions •of both leagues were de-
clared by virtue of their wins
over their opponents.
The •champions of the girls'
league were the Homesteaders,
whose captain was Sandra Des-
jardine. The winners of the
boys' hoop were the Aeadians,
whose captain was Kevin Mc-
Kinnon.
In the boys' final, which was
played first, the Acadians won

able to reach any decision but
further study of the situation
will be made in the very near
future.
Following the annual road
tour by all members of council
in company with a representa-
tive of the department of high-
ways, reconstruction of the
Babylon Line and the second
concession of Hay was ordered.
Frost damage was high on most
township roads this past win-
ter, council discovered.
Road superintendent K a r 1
Haberer was instructed to sign
a drainage petition to relieve
the water problem at lot 12,
concession 8 and 9, and to call
tenders for sand cushion and
gravel for one mile of roadway
on concession 8 and 9 from lot
12 to 15.
Leonard Greb and Ken Elder
will be advised that no more
hangers are to be erected closer
to •the road than 40 feet.
In other business, council ac-
cepted a quotation from Mous-
seau and Parkins for six grader
tires at $245 each; accepted
Lee Jennison's price of $49.50
per flake ton equivalent of cal-
cium for Hay roads (usually
about 100 tons are used an-
nually); agreed to accept $1250
from Mr. and Mrs. Starly Stu-
derus for lot 24, plan 32; and
set the next meeting for June
5 at 8 p.m.

over the Confederations by a
score of 51-20. The game was
close for the first quarter as
the score was 18-9 for the win-
ners, but after the start of the
second quarter the Acadians
found the range and began to
score frequently.
Kevin McKinnon led the win-
ners with 29 points, followed
next by John Gascho with 15,
Ed Prang with five and Ken
Westlake and Doug ,Coxon with
one apiece. Ken Clarke led
the losers with 13 points, fol-
lowed by Aubrey Bedard with
seven.
In the girls' final the Home-
steaders won over the Federa-
tions by a score of 30-12. The
game was not an especially
close one for such an impor-
tant game as the Homesteaders
led all the way.
Jo-anne Lansbergen led the
winners with 10 points, followed
by Gwen .Clausius with eight,
Sandra Desjardine and Marcia
Merner with six each. Carolyn
Thiel led the losers with six
points, followed by Linda Webb
with four and Jo -Anne Thiel
with two.
This completes the basketball
in Zurich for this year and I
would just like to thank players
and officials alike for their co-
operation in making this pro-
gram such a success.
