Eentertain at Huronview The WSWS of the Evangelical UB Church provided a program for residents of Huronview, Tuesday, March 28, The com- mittee in charge was convenor, Mrs. Mervyn Tiernan, Mrs. Sid Baker and Mrs. Gordon Bender, A number o,f children went along and favored with singing. Harry Hoffman sang and Hilton Ford and Henry Green played the mandolin and violin, .accom- panied by Mrs Lloyd Guenther. Brenda Guenther and Cathy Wooden tap danced; Susan Grigg played the accordion; Mrs. George Link recited Kip- ling's "Recessional"; Ervin Eck- stein gave several readings. The guest speaker, Joseph Wooden, acting principal of South Huron District High School, and warden of Trivitt Memorial Anglican Church, Ex- eter. Mr, Wooden appealed to to the boys to practise their Christian life and training not only during the hours of Sun- day church service, but also in their day-to-day work and games and social contacts. Glen Thiel, chairman on the committee 'on worship and music, was master of ceremon- ies, Thedinner was served by group three of the Lutheran Church Women, as a compli- ment to the boys who have served or do serve as altar at- tendants. The dinner was fol- lowed by indoor games. Mr, Wooden was introduced by Clare Lawrence and was thanked 'by Paul Flaxbard. Scripture readings, which in- cluded the word "candle", were read by Richard Walker, Robert Doerr, Cam Reder, Rick Schilbe, Tine Decker and Harold Merrier. The G oder i c h Centennial committee has asked Hensall to provide a float depicting life in Canada from 1947 to 1957 for the July 1 celebration in Goderich. Village council was also asked to select a contest- ant to compete for a Huron County beauty queen title at the same festivity. Works Report E. R. Davis reported to coun- cil on snow removal, the break- down of the tractor, difficulties at the dump, the necessity of a new culvert and a problem of dust from the Co-op during seed cleaning time which settles on the house and property of Grant Bisback. He also explained some storm sewers were not large enough to handle the increased amount of water these spring days. He stated that water is coming up from the catch basin near Lloyd Venner's home rather than go- ing down into it. Council discussed at some length the advisability of keep- ing the present tractor for mow- ing grass and weeds and buy- ing a new and heavier tractor for other work. No decision was reached on this matter. However, council did agree to grant E. R. Davis a car allow- ance of $300 annually. Mr. Davis, who will be in hospital for two weeks this spring, will be temporarily replaced by John Jarrott. Other business included Hen - sail's share of the yearly levy to be paid to the Aux Sauble Conservation as $1057.65 and a further levy of $91.82 to be paid toward expenses on the Parkhill dam; notice that all arrears of 1966 taxes, amount- ing to about $1000, be sent in for collection; report that Reeve Minnie Noakes will attend the convention for mayors and reeves in Niagara Falls front May 14.17; and that Daylight Saving Time will be effective in Hensall from April 29 at 12:01 a.m. to ,October 28 at 12 p.m, Applications for building per- mits from Melvin Traquair, Mrs, McAllister and John Link to renovate, and from the Co-op to build scales and tanks were approved by council before ad- journment. Musical numbers were given by Melvin Melick on the elec- tric guitar ,and Don Oesch on 'the piano. Mrs. Milton Oesch rendered a vocal number. A hand crochet rug demon- stration by Mrs.. Pearl Melick proved •interesting. Mrs. Myrtle Hay, Mrs Delbert Geiger and Mrs. W. Brokenshire presented readings. Mrs. Howard Finkbeiner pre- sided for the business portion of the meeting. Among many items of interest, .a vote was taken in regards to a donation to the Blue Water Rest Horne, which resulted in a gift of three hundred dollars. INJURED IN HOCKEY GAME An unfortunate accident took place in the first period, when Jim Bedard was cross-checked by a St. Clements player, and suffered a broken nose in the encounter.
