Celebrate Birthday Members of Fred Weiberg's family, namely, Mr. and Mrs. Garnet Weiberg and family, Mr. and Mrs. Hubert Weiberg and family, Mr, and Mrs. Howard Weiberg and family, Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Weiberg and fam- ily, Mr. and Mrs. Ervin Lotta and family, all of Kitchener and Waterloo; Mr. and Mrs. Earl Weiberg and Judy, of London, and Mr. and Mrs. Lorne Devine, spent Sunday with him and celebrated his birthday which was Monday, February 27. Kareen Elaine Walper, infant daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Willis Walper, was baptized in the EUB Church Sunday, February 26, by Rev. Merrill James. Personals Miss Kim Gaiser, small daugh- ter of Mr. and Mrs. Jack Gaiser, fractured her wrist in a fall at her home. Harry Hayter was on a Purina tour to St. Louis Mo., last week. They left London by plane Sun- day •and returned Tuesday. While there he visited with Ar- thur Rader at Concordia Semin- ary on Sunday evening. Mr. and Mrs. James Hayter attended the Good Roads con- vention in Toronto last week. Mary Ann Hayter, daughter of Mr. and Mrs, James Hayter, participated in several vocal classes in the Kiwanis Music Festival at London last week. She was awarded a $50 schol- arship. Simon Dietrich, of the Ba- bylon Line, has purchased the 50 -acre farm of his brother-in- law, Jacob Battler, and gets possession on March 31 next. This farm adjoins Mr, Dietrich's farm. Thousands of dozens of fish have been caught by fishermen on the Sauble Line through the ice along the lake the past few weeks. Petitions for woman suffrage have been circulated around Exeter and have been signed freely. Possibly it is not known to everyone that Huron is the third richest county in the Province .of Ontario ranking behind Sim- coe and York. H. Eilber, MPP, is attending the sitting of the legislature at Toronto. 40 Years Ago MARCH, 1927 Operations have again com- menced in widening the road at the little swamp, and we hope this is a big step towards having the road from Zurich to Hensall paved in the matter •of a year or two. W. H. Edighoffer, of the 14th concession, has invested in a new Ford touring car, making the purchase from C. Fritz & Son, dealers. Rev. H. Rembe has been called to the bedside of his fa- ther, Rev. Rembe Sr., at Ham- ilton, Lent is here but the usual fine catches of fresh lake her- ring that we always looked for- ward for at this period have not made their appearance. It will be six or eight weeks before Zurich's new fire engine arrives, complete with a few chemical tanks. Rev. Roy M. Geiger, Chesley, a Zurich old -boy, will address - OF YEARS GONE BY - the congregation in the Evan- gelical Church on Sunday. 25 Years Ago MARCH, 1942 April 1 is the date on which gasoline rationing will go into effect. A patriotic concert earned $42 for the Red Cross on Mon- day night, Mrs. J. Battler and Mrs. Fanny Bender donated :a quilt to the local Red Cross which was raffled and the pro- ceeds amounted to $29.40. Phil- lip Masse drew the lucky num- ber. The Dominion Government is at present making a strong ap- peal to the people of Canada for the Second Victory Loan and canvassers are out now. A triple threat salesman is W. Edighoffer, Hay west canvas- ser. He had a shade on the Mounties. He not only gets his man when he calls at a home, but everybody in the house. The other day at •a place, he not only sold the bead of the house, but also his father and a visitor. He didn't overlook anyone. Cold weather with storms ragging was what we enjoyed over the week -end. William O'Brien & Sons, man- agers of the local Silverwood's plant, have recently installed a modern egg grading machine. Hess, Milfred Sohil- be, Jack Turkheim and Lloyd O'Brien attended the Hydro convention at Toronto. On Wednesday last during a blinding blizzard, Fred Du- charme, •of the Blue Water Highway, noticed a red -breasted robin perched high in one of their shade trees. Mr. and Mrs. Laird Mickle and Mr. and Mrs. Walter Spen- cer, of Hensall, spent last Tues- day and Wednesday in Detroit where they saw Barbara :Ann Scott in the Ice xteview there, Auction sales in the district this week are for Delbert Geig- er and Emmery Stebbins. Mr, and Mrs. Harry Hoffman and fancily, Dashwood, spent the week -end in Waterloo. Donald Charrettee goes to Washington and Robert Char - rete and his new bride go to Los Angeles where the boys are in the services. They had spent the week -end at the home •of Mr. and Mrs. David Ducharme. 10 Years Ago MARCH, 1957 Mr, and Mrs. James Hayter, Mr. and Mrs. Clifford Salmon and Mr. and Mrs. Ervin Rader are in Toronto this week. Early this week, all indica- tions pointed towards spring but we woke up Wednesday morning with the mercury drop- ping to 20 above on Wednesday morning. It's good to have money and things that money can buy, but it's good, too, to check up once in a while and make sure you haven't lost the things that money can't buy. Mr. and Mrs. Hubert Schilbe and Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Hess attended a Huron District Scout Masters' rally in Exeter Scout Hall. Hon. Walter Harris, minister of finance, will be the speaker at the Liberal nominating con- vention in Clinton on March 1, 1957. You can't practice what you preach and for heaven's sake, don't preach what you practice. The Unique Farm Forum was at the hone of Mr. and Mrs, Harold Horner.
