Although the kids learn the fundamentals of the game in school, they need plenty of practise to be really good.. and if practise makes perfect, the Zurich kids will be hard to beat. Basketball Growing in Popularity as Numerous Teams Begin Play in Zurich (Intended for last week) On Sunday .afternoon the newly -formed Zurich Basketball League began play with the Acadian winning the first game from the Beavers by a score of 55-31, and the Confed- erations taking their game from the Dominions by a close score of 30-29. In the first game the Aca- dians built up a 30-9 half-time lead and then played defensive ball as the Beavers finally came alive and started to move, but it was too big .a deficit to over- come and not enough time to do it in. High scorer was John Gascho with 25 points, followed closely by Kevin McKinnon with 23 points. and Ken Westlake getting four along wilt Gary Hugill, two. High man for the Beavers was Richard Turkheim with 10, Jerry Rader was close behind with eight, with David Siebert getting six, Richard Fischer four and Shane McKinnon three. The second game was a more exciting affair as the score was close throughout most of the game and the outcome not be- ing decided until the final min- ute. Both teams were evenly matched, but the score might have been a bit higher had they taken advantage of the many chances each had. Ken Clarke led the Confed- erations with 12 points, followed by .Aubrey Bedard with eight, Dave Stark with four, Clare Lawrence, Ron Desjardine and Pete Regier with two apiece, Richard Schilbe was high man for the game in a losing cause as he hooped 15 points for the Dominions, with Ron Corriveau collecting six, Gord Beierling four, and Paul and Gary Flax - bard two apiece. The •officiating was done by Louis Schilbe and Danny Black, and they did .a commendable job. Anyone wishing to help Louis out in refereeing these games should please contact myself, Jerry Rader or Richard Turkheim anytime before Sun- day. 0 DASHWOOD Mrs. Ray Van Dorsselaer, Mr. Rudolph Miller, Miss Pearl Kraft and Mrs. Gerald O'Rourke are patients in South Huron Hos- pital, Exeter.
