Mrs, Tay- lor was the recipient of many congratulatory cards, flowers and gifts. Mr, and Mrs. Walter Spencer spent the week -end in Toronto attending the lumber dealers' meeting. Mrs. V. M. Pyette who accompanied them, spent a week visiting with her mother, Mrs. Brown. Mrs. Ezra Kipfer attended the funeral last Friday of her broth- er, John Oesch, of Pigeon, Mich., who passed away after a lengthy illness. Relatives at- tended from Clinton, Varna, Kippen, Zurich and Hensall. Mr. and Mrs. Sim Roobol re- ceived word of the sudden death of Mrs. Roobol's uncle, G. Van - MRS. MAUDE REDDEN, Editor Dyk, of the Hague, -Tolland. Funeral service was held Feb- ruary 10. The late Mr, Van- Dyk and his wife visited in Hensall in 1959 with Mr. and Mrs. Roobol. Flowers in the United •Church sanctuary Sunday morning were in loving memory of Roy Smale,. placed by his wife and family. Miss Ann Mickle, who is at- tending University of London, spent Friday and Saturday with her parents, Mr, and Mrs. Laird Mickle, and on Sunday at noon left London with the other members of the university choir to compete in the inter -college choir festival being held this year at McMaster University, Hamilton. In spite of adverse weather conditions Saturday, Guides and Brownies had a very successful candy sale, and received good co-operation from the residents. Mrs. Roy Consitt, who has been a patient in Clinton Public Hospital where she underwent surgery, has returned home. Mr. and. Mrs. Robert Watson, of Seaforth, visited Sunday with Mrs, Clendon Christie and Catherine Anne. 0 Obituary ROY EDWARD SMALE Hensall and district residents were shocked to learn of the sudden passing of Roy Edward Smale, RR 1, Hensall, who died suddenly in Cromarty, Wednes- day, February 8, of a heart at- tack. He was 56. He was a member of Hensall branch of the Canadian Legion 468, and was a veteran of World War II. He was the son of George Smale, of Hensall, and the late Mrs. Srnale. Surviving are his wife, the former Hilda Harburn; two sons, Jim, Stratford; David, at home; his father; four brothers, Wil- liam, Thomas, Howard, Hensall; Alvin, of Seaforth; three sisters, (Pearl) Mrs. William Hooper, Grand Bend; (Bella) Mrs. Clar- ence Farwell, Zurich; Mrs. Irene Quance, Staffa. Public funeral service, con- ducted by Rev. Harold Currie, was held Saturday, at 12:30 p.nz., with temporary entomb- ment in Hensall Union Ceme- tery Mausoleum. The Legion conducted a service at the funeral home Thursday night. Pall bearers were: Jack Boa, Henry Harburn, George Boa, Ernie Harburn, Fred Harburn, Wilmer Dalrymple; flower bear- ers. Mervyn Stephen, Gary Quance, Eric Smale, Jack Brod- hagen, Ken Smale, Bill Har- burn. Observe World Day of Prayer in Hensall Church The World Day of Prayer was observed at St. Paul's Anglican Church Friday afternoon, Feb- ruary 10. Mrs. Harold Parker gave the address, using the theme, "And to His Kingdom there shall be no end". "Law of the kingdom was the law of love which has a force all its own. As we are forgiven we are to forgive, our life must demonstrate the reality of love with the life we Iive," the speaker said. Representatives from four churches, Mrs. Thomas Laven- der, Mrs. Earl Campbell, Mrs. James McAllister, Mrs. Richard Taylor, Jr., took part in the service. Prayers were. offered by Mrs. George Armstrong, Mrs. T. Sherritt, Mrs. R. A. Orr, Mrs. Russell Brock. Mrs Lavender presided and Mrs. Frank For- rest presided at the church organ. 0 Hensall Kinettes Make Donations Hensall Kinettes, upon com- pleting their float for the Win- ter Carnival last Wednesday evening, met at the home of Mrs. J. Drysdale for a short business meeting, with Mrs. Ken Chettleburg as guest. A letter was received inviting the group to Zone D inter -club at Stratford, April 27. Annual visits to shut-ins will be made Sunday, March 5. A donation was made to the March of Dimes and Mental Health. March of Dimes chair- man Mrs. Robert Caldwell re- ported that $187 had been re- ceived up to date, with all returns not in. Auxiliary Plans Special Activity At the Legion Ladies' Aux- iliary meeting held Tuesday night, February '7, a life mem- bership pin was presented to Mrs. Harry Hort o n, by Mrs, Garnet Allan. Mrs. Mildred Chalmers was welcomed into the Auxiliary, having been transferred from Wyoming. The group will sponsor a pub- lic speaking contest for students grades 5, 6, 7 and 8, of Hensall area school on Friday, March 3. They will also sponsor a draw for an Easter grocery hamper, valued at $25.00, with proceeds for the Easter Seal campaign. The Auxiliary will cater to two bonspeils in February and March. They will hold a social evening, Friday, February 24 and will sponsor two teams for the bowling tournament at Exe- ter, February 15. The attendance prize was won by Mrs. Howard Smale; guess- ing contest, Mrs. Jack Simmons; mystery prize, Mrs. W. H., Bell. A social hour of bingo was played and lunch served. The hall was decorated in Valentine motif. President Mrs. Harold Campbell was in the chair. 0 Hensall Institute Sponsors Two 4-H Homemaking Club Hensall Women's Institute February meeting, held Wed- nesday night, took the form of a Valentine social with each member bringing a guest and introducing them at roll call. Lovely Valentine emblems dec- orated the Legion Hall. A brief business meeting was held, presided over by president Mrs. Beverly Beaton. The In- stitute is sponsoring two 4-H clubs which have a membership of 22 girls, and the leaders are Mrs. Alex Munn, Mrs. Don Travers, Mrs. R, M. Peck, Mrs. Harry Caldwell, The Institute is presenting a centennial spoon to the infant son of Mr. and Mrs. Douglas Cooper, "Our Centennial Baby". A motion was made for the ex- ecutive to make plans for the centennial tea in May. Mrs. Fred Beer was in charge of the program, which included a grapefruit race and the win- ner was Mrs. Glenn Bell. Eleven tables were in play for the euchre and one for the eroki- nole, Winners for the euchre were Mrs. R. A. ,Orr, Mrs, Wil- liam Cole, Mrs. Glenn Bell, Mrs. Oliver Jaques and Mrs. Lorne Luker. Winner for the croki- nole was Mrs, Clarence Reid. Program convenors were Mrs. Beer and Mrs. Alex Mousseau, hostesses, Mrs. Gordon Troyer and Mrs. E. J. Wiilert. 4-H Groups Begin Regular Sessions The first meeting of the 4-11 club was held at the home of Mrs, Donald Travers, with Mrs. Alex Munn and Mrs. Travers in charge of the group. The following were elected to office: Sherry Travers, presi- dent; Sandra Munn, secretary; Catharine Christie, press corre- spondent, The girls decided to call their club the "Hensall Homemak- ers". For roll call the ten mem- bers told the date of their birthday. Mrs. Munn demonstrated how to make "blueberry buckle". Mrs. Travers spoke on early Canada and working methods. Sandra Munn, Sherry Travers and Shelley Bonthron showed how to make the succotash. After sampling the food the girls left for home. VILLAGE OF HENSALL HYDRO INTERR 1 SUNDAY, FE'' '' LAKY 19 2 P.M. CHARMING SNOW LADY — It wasn't very wain in Hensall last weekend for the Winter Carnival but this lovely snow lady melted the hearts of the Snow Man Con- test judges to win first place for her creator, Miss Cather- ine Cristie.
