A special birthday din- ner was held in January for Mrs. Effie Kleinstiver. Last Saturday a special birthday dinner was held for Mrs. Glazier. Also celebrating their birthday during January were Mrs. Mary Stephan and William Thiel. For these birthday dinners the din- ing -room tables are put togeth- er and the staff and residents sit down to a full course dinner party with all the trimmings. The meat portion of the meal is left to the choice of the guest of honor, who is celebrathing the birthday. Mr. and Mrs. Keith Westlake gave us a large supply of read-, ing material for our library, On Wednesday last, the ladies who are interested in the Blue 'Pater Rest Home Ladies' Aux- iliary met at the Horne and wit- nessed the installation of the first executive of the auxiliary: president, Mrs. Lawrence Reg - ler; vice-president, Mrs. Wilfred Corriveau; secretary, Mrs. Ger- ald Gingerich, and treasurer, Mrs. Floyd Armstrong. The transportation convenor is Mrs. Wesley Coxon. She is responsible to see that any resi- dent who desires to visit a hhb friend or needs transportation for any other reason as such. Should the auxiliary arrange a countrywide tour for the resi- dents, Mrs. Coxon would be re- sponsible to see that cars are available, The visitation convenor is Mrs. Newell Geiger, She is re- sponsible to see that the resi- dents have regular visitors from the auxiliary members. People assisting Mrs. Geiger would chat with the residents and for a great many of the residents; write letters for them. Auxiliary convenor, liasion, is Mrs. Leonard Erb. Mrs. Erb would see that all auxiliary members are remembered in event of sickness, death, etc. The social representative is Mrs. William Baechler. Mrs. Baechler is responsible for any birthday parties or other social events for the residents. Pub- lic bazaars and teas are also her responsibility. When I need as- sistance in the hobby shop, Mrs. Baechler will arrange for aux- iliary members to help. The executive will be having their first meeting soon and I will keep you posted as to the events planned and the next public meeting of the auxiliary. MR. AND MRS. I.H. Enthusiasm at the local plant for the success of Zurich's new- est manufacturing outlet is running high as the number on staff there has risen to about 20 persons. Most recent officer to joint the firm is Earl Flaxbarcl, new vice-president. and their attendants of 25 years ago were asked to come for- ward. They were presented with corsages and boutonnieres. l\'Irs. Edgar Elligson, Walton, read the address in which she reminisced on some of the in- cidents and happenings of Laura and Cliff's courtship clays, and closed by wishing them many more years of hap- py married life. On behalf of their parents, sisters, brothers and families gifts were present- ed by Miss Margaret Deichert, Kitchener, and Mrs. Frank Fal- coner, Clinton. Cliff and Laura thanked all for their thought- fulness. Before leaving for their re- spective home all wished them many more years of happy wedded life. On Saturday afternoon the daughters of Mr. and Mrs. Pep- per entertained their parents at a dinner in the Colonial Hotel, Grand Bend. VARNA NEWS The United Church Women held their February meeting in the church last Thursday eve- ning with an attendance of 26 ladies. Mrs. -Mervyn Hayter opened the meeting with pray- er. Group three were in charge of devotions. The theme was "Love", Mrs. M. Johnston read the scripture and Mrs. Ralph Stephenson gave the meditation. Mrs. Fred McClymont offered the prayer. An interesting •playette was given by Mrs. Charles Reid and Mrs. John Ostrom, entitled "How long is ever after". Mrs. Gordon Johnston gave a talk on the history of Stanley Town- ship from 1825 to 1873, taken from the Huron County book by James Scott. Mrs. David Ostrom sang a solo, "Now I belong to Jesus", accompanied by Mrs. Ralph Stephenson. Delegates were appointed to attend the Pres- byterial in Wingharn later this nnonth, There were 53 calls made during the past month to sick and shut-ins. Mrs. Mervy Hayter closed the meeting with the following thought: To look up and not down, To look out and not in, To look forward and not back, Ancl to lend a hand. The World Day of Prayer will be held in the United Church on Friday, February 10, at 3 p.m. The annual skating carnival will be held in the local rink Saturday, February 11, at 8 p.m., with a good list of prizes for old and young. Joe is one of the employees at Zurich Wood Products Limited and from the looks of things here, he enjoys his work. The plant is operating on the premises which was the former Kalbfleisc Planing Mill. Area Couple are Y Honored; Married 25 Years Ago On Sunday, January 29, about 45 relatives paid a surprise visit to the hone of Mr. and Mrs. Clifford Pepper to honor them on the occasion of their 25th wedding anniversary. They were married on Jan- uary 24, 1942, at Brodhagen— Laura, second eldest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Victor Deichert, Zurich, and Clifford, youngest son of Mr. and Mrs. Roy Pep- per, Clinton. Attendants were Mrs. Harold Taylor, Seaforth, sister of the groom. and Earl Deichert, Zurich, brother of the bride. They made their home on the Kalbfleisch homestead, RR 1, Dashwood, and have re- sided there since. Mr. and Mrs. Pepper have a family of four daughters: Mrs. Earl (Marion) Miller, Dashwood; Doris, Rttth Anne and Joan; also two grandsons. The celebration took the form of a buffet style dinner at noon. The table was centred with the anniversary cake.
