H -Z Juveniles
Post First Victory
Over Ripley Six
On Tuesday night the Hen-
sall-Zurich Juveniles, paced by
the line of Flaxbard, McKinnon
and Corriveau, and the •out-
standing netminding of Rick
Jeffrey, started off the new
year with their first victory, a
4-3 decision over Ripley. Previ-
ous to that they had lost two
1 and tied one.
In the first period Ripley
struck early for a 2-0 lead. At
the start of the second frame
the Combines came back quick-
ly when Flaxbard scored from
Corriveau. A few minutes later
Flaxbard scored his second
goal of the game on a pass from
McKinnon.
Then in the third period Rip-
ley never had one shot for the
first 10 minutes, •as McKinnon
scored assisted by Corriveau to
put the Combines in the lead.
Later on Corriveau scored as-
sisted by McKinnon to make
the score 4-2 for H -Z.
But with five minutes re-
maining Ripley cut the margin
to 4-3. Had it not been for the
superb netminding of Jeffrey
and the defensive work of Hoff-
man and Soldan the opposition
would have tied the score and
maybe would have taken the
lead.
Next game for the Combines
is on Thursday, when the travel
to Listowel to •tackle the tough
Listowel crew.

"THE STORE WITH THE STOCK"
Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Du-
charme and daughter, of Sarnia,
were New Years visitors with
the former's parents, Mr, and
Mrs, Avila Ducharme, of this
highway.
Visitors at the home of yours
truly and Mrs. Ducharme were
from Detroit, Mr. and Mrs.
Tyrus Stansbury and daughter;
from Windsor, Mr. Cyril Du-
charme in •company with Mr.
Nelson Papineau; from Grand
Bend, Mr.. and Mrs. Leo P. Du-
charme and family; from the
Blue Water south, Mr. and Mrs.
Avila Ducharme and family, and
from Zurich, Mrs. Theresa Hart-
man and Robert. Also some
neighbors from the surround-
ings called to exchane greetings
on New Year's Day.
At the home of Mr. and Mrs.
Dominic Jeffrey, of St. Joseph,
were Mrs.. Sarah Jeffrey and
other members of the family,
and Mr, and Mrs. Fred Siemon,
of Zurch.
The New Year's Day was an
ideal one and visitors from the
surrounding and abroad took
advantage of it. Mostly all
homes had a family gathering
for the New Year's Day, to
meet with parents, relatives
and friends.
Again Christmas day for the
year 1966 has passed on and
we must say it was a white
Christmas, which was pleasing
to many, especially those who
are superstitious of a green
Christmas. In its passing it has
left many grief stricken homes,
homes broken up caused by ac-
cidents traditional from year to
year leaving families going
through the valley of tears.
Why? There is no answer to
it. We can believe we are .go-
ing through a world of changes
and for some it is hard for
them to submit too. Some of
them are causing 'disagreement
among nations and the result
much blood shed, such as we
witness today. Perhaps one of
the causes of warring nations
are due to misunderstanding
among themselves or perhaps
the ambition for ruling and to
achieve their point, they are
using diabolical pressure and
as aforesaid, causing blood shed.
They stray away from the
Christ child born at Bethlehem
nearly twenty centuries ago.
They stray away from the guid-
ing star which led men to the
crib in .a stable where •a Saviour
was born.
After all those past centuries
there is still anger among men
and perhaps to bring some into
power, To come to their senses
would be a miracle or perhaps
more destruction to happen
would they understand the true
spirit of Chrstmas.
They should realize that peace
does not come by deaths of
husbands and fathers who were
slaughtered on the battle field
and leaving behind mothers,
wives and children who are
paying an unjust penalty by
almost starving, We, in this
land of plenty, whether or not
we would have had a green
Christmas which so many fear-
ed, causing illness according to
their beliefs, or whether it was
a white Christmas wading in
snow waist deep. We were
much better off than the war-
ring countries and for that we
should be much more grateful
for living in a land of plenty
and where we are so far greeted
with peace.
