Mr, and Mrs. Laird Mickle Hensall Institute Enjoys Program A skit, "Christmas in Fantasy Land", was a highlight of the Christmas meeting of Hensall Women's Institute, held Wed- nesday evening. Portraying the roles were Mrs. V. M. Pyette, Mrs, Robert Elgie, Mrs, Harry Horton, Mrs. R. M. Peck, Mrs. Walker Carlile, Mrs. Rodger Venner, Mrs. Pearl Koehler and Mrs. Carl Payne, Miss Mattie Ellis gave a read- ing, "Christmas Shopping", and Miss Greta Laramie directed carol singing. For their centennial project, the group decided to have a blossom tea in May. A draw for a Christmas card holder, made by Mrs. R. M. Peck, was won by Mrs. Elgie. Roll call was "show a home-made Christ- mas gift". President Mrs. Beverly Bea- ton presided for the business and Mrs. Carl Payne for the program. A delicious lunch was served. Program convenors were Mrs. Carl Payne and Mrs. Rodger Venner; hostesses, Mrs. Clar- ence Reid and Mrs. Fred Beer. Decorations in yuletide motif decorated the Legion Hall, where the meeting was held. MRS. MAUDE REDDEN, Editor attended the concert presented by the University of Western Ontario choir, with the UWO orchestra Sunday evening in Thames Hall. Miss Ann Mickle is a member. Mr. and Mrs. Clendon Christie and Catharine will spend Christ- mas with Mr. and Mrs, Robert Watson, Seaforth.. Mr. and Mrs, Sim Roobol spent the week -end with Mr, and Mrs. Tony Gelderland, of Ridgetown. The families of the Hensall branch of the Canadian Legion and Ladies' Auxiliary were en- tertained to a Christmas party in the Legion Hall Sunday af- Arnold Circle Christmas Meet The Christmas meeting of the Arnold Circle, December 12, was celebrated by candlelight, with poinsettias, bells and stars and Christmas hymns played in the background, A manger scene, with Mrs. Al Hoggarth as Joseph, Mrs. R. Vanstone as Mary, Mrs. John Baker, Mrs. S. Bell and Pauline as the three Wise Men, pre- sented a skit. President Mrs. Bob Bell chaired the meeting for the business and called on all mem- bers to help fill, the Christmas hags with home-made candy. Decorating for the coming Christmas season in the church will be in charge of Mrs. J. Baker, Mrs. H. Bonthron, Mrs. G. •Schwalm and Mrs. H. Pyette that the contribution to the Canadian Bible Society in the recent canvass of the village of Hensall amounted to $185.55. During the business session a donation was made to the Salvation Army at London. Several Christmas boxes were packed and delivered to shut- ins of Carmel Presbyterian Church congregation by ladies of the Women's Missionary So- ciety of Carmel Church. Pack- ing was done at the home of the president, Mrs. Earl Camp- bell, Church Notes The Sunday school of Carmel Presbyterian Church presented a Christmas program in the church sanctuary, following the church service Sunday morning. Numbers from different classes, recitations and choruses made up the program. White gifts were also presented for the London orphanage, .,: Special Christmas services, with appropriate message and music in keeping with the Christmas season, were ob- served in the local churches Sunday morning, with decora- tions in Christmas motif, u.* 44 The Hensall United Church Messengers had their regular meeting with 13 children pres- ent. Mrs. C. Christie and Mrs. C. Pepper had a special devo- tional for Christmas with suit- able religious decorations. The children decorated Christmas stockings during the recreation- al period. :k * * The United Church Sunday school white gift service was held Sunday evening with the ser v i c e conducted by John Goddard; prayer by Tom Trav- ers; scripture by Donna For- rest, and the story by Mrs. Robert Cook. The junior choir, led by Mrs. B. McKinley, with Mrs. J. Turkheim at the organ eonsol, sang two numbers, "The Friendly Beasts" and "Keep Christ in Christmas".
