The committee, under the convenorship of Mrs. A. Black- well, presented the topic, "Christmas cards and tree dec- orations". Various cards were displayed and their 'origin and meaning were explained. It was pointed out how many dif- ferent individual sentiments were expressed by cards and also that it is important that they bear messages of the true meaning of Christmas. The Christmas tree was unique in that it was decorated with only "chrismons", which were made of combinations of white and gold. White to rep- resent the purity and perfec- tion of the Lord and gold, sym- bolizing the Lord's regal office of eternity. Chrismons are in various forms of Christian sym- bols, such as, the cross, the crown, the circle, the dove, tri- angles, etc. An explanation of the various symbols was pre- sented, After the close of the pro- gram the business meeting took place. Donations of canned goods for the Blue Water Rest Home were received. It was reported that the junior and senior choirs were entertained and served •a turkey dinner in November. The visiting com- mittee reported making 22 calls. Donations for good cheer boxes for the shut-ins are to be de- livered to the home of Mrs. Ferd Haberer before noon, De- cember 16, and will be delivered by the Leaguers on Sunday eve- ning. The offerings for the Christ- mas month amounted to $104.70. The meeting was adjourned and was followed by the annual meeting. The election of 'officers re- sulted as follows: president, Mrs. A. JOSEPH and DRYSDALE Alfred Ducharme, Correspondent On Sunday last the infant We believe this fall of snow may disappear in a few days and perhaps leave us without snow for Christmas. It is un- usual but it has happened be- fore and can happen again. Many of the old people did not like a green Christmas, they were under :the impression that there was more sickness and more deaths, meaning a fat graveyard, therefore the old people were ill at ease dur- ing the entire year, They pre- ferred the old-time harci and cold winter with plenty of snow son of Mr and Mrs. L. I. Du- charme was christened in St. Joseph parish, St. Peter's Church, taking the name of Joseph Michael Leo, and the sponsors for the occasion were Mr, and Mrs. Bert Andrews, of the Centralia air force. There is an old saying that sometimes the child follows the footsteps of their godparents, and if so no one tan at the present time predict where be will land when he becomes a man. The god- father is in the •air force .in Centralia and of course always subject to changes. There is not too much to worry about those old legends, for who knows by the time the boy is fully matured and ready for worldly action. Visitors at the Dolph Sopha home over the week -end were Mrs. John Mahoney, Mr. and Mrs. Morris Durand, Mr. and Mrs. Harold Deitrich and fam- ily and Mrs. Alice Denomme. On Saturday last we were greeted with the first snow fall of the season. It was not a surprise for we are nearing the first part of the winter season. Many other parts of the coun- try had much more snow than we did, due perhaps to colder temperature freezing the rain before it fell to the ground. Due to mild weather in this part it was just simply rain. Pouring tea in the afternoon were Mrs. William Oesch and Mrs. Andy Veldman. Serving the guests were Sharon Oesch and Linda Rader. Showing the trousseau and gifts were Eleanor Wright, Emma Oesch, Ruth Clausius and Mrs. William Sims. Sylvia Oesch attended to the register. In the evening, Mrs. Cornel- ius Faber and Mrs. John DeWys poured tea. Serving were Lynne Faber and Mrs. Lloyd Cooper. There are still a few of our young people who are super- stitious and they, too, follow the legends of their forefathers. Should we have a green Christ- mas it would mean disappoint ment to old man Santa who will leave the north pole in bitter cold with plenty of snow. Should he arrive in our parts and land on bare ground, be would have to change road vehicles and that could be con- fusing. Santa will find a way regardless of what the weather is and we will just have to wait and see. Business and Professional Directory OP„TOMETRY J. E.
